I think the only reason I hate playing MMORPGs is because of the late 1990's visual quality. Are there any MMORPGs that have decent visuals?

You'd be suprised Mike they have updated it alot and you can mod the files to upgrade the effects even further... people have said the M17 (not M17x) even has a problem running it at high settings, actually a very taxing game

Na I've seen it played on my brothers system. He has a very decent desktop rig and has it maxed out. Very unimpressive. I hate everything about WOW anyways ;P

I don't... but I will never play it again lol

Anyway I personally recommed you just wait for Diablo 3, I used to play Diablo 3 like an MMO all the time! lol

No but seriously Aion runs of the CRY engine, and it looks pretty good

yeap plus LOTRO overall is better IMO. The environment and settings makes you feel like your in the actual world. I think its the best designed landscape and enviroment ever created in any MMORPG game. The music is also amazing. The gameplay can sometimes be a little slow but overall I enjoyed it the most out of any MMORPG. You also cant beat the mature and more helpful players that the game has....its not full of A holes trying to kill you or screw u over. New books also get added frequently unlocking more quests and storyline to lord of the rings. Also, its cheaper and just got a new expansion; mines of moria. The game wont ever fail or go down either, there are many players and they have a deal with Tolkien Enterprises to support and add to the game untill 2014....it might even be extended to 2017...so its not a game that will fail on you like AoC has and Warhammer online...its very consistant and never drops players because of a newer MMO that comes out

I agree with what's already been mentioned about LotRO. Can't beat it for BOTH gameplay and graphics.

Also, EVE Online looks great visually despite the engine not supporting DX10 or, gasp!, anti-aliasing. However it does get repetitive rather quickly considering the environment is limited to space, dead space (dungeons in mmo layman's terms), and stations. CCP are working on updating planet textures and ambulation which should breathe life into the station environs.

Choosing an MMO based on graphics is retarded.

WoW is really one of the best MMO's out,
The graphics areant "AmazinglyAwesome" But it's a good game.

If you really want a good graphic MMO,
Try Aion, It has lovely Graphics
It's still in the beta stages,
So the game is a bit rough around the edges.

The most visually appealing MMOs available is between Conan and, believe it or not, Vanguard. Aion has decent graphics but they are very reminiscent of Guild Wars, including character models and some environmental aspects.

One thing you guys need to keep in mind is that WoW's success is derived solely from the fact that it has very low system requirements. Using "cartoony" graphics, while timeless, also means that the game can run on pretty much any system out there.

When you look at MMOs like Conan and Vanguard however, these intense graphical masterpieces cater to those who have the systems to run it. This explains why these MMOs never enjoyed the following that WoW or EQ had. It also explains why, in some circles, people declare these MMOs as failures because they were limited to only a certain sect of gamers.

Hey, if I'm going to be playing an MMO for several hours a day I'm going to want something that is enjoyable to play as well as visually appealing.

And way to go on the political correctness. If I could give minus rep some would be thrown your way.

You know, I haven't played in about 6 months due to burn out, but DDO was always a great looking game IMO. Before AND after they implemented DX10. Mostly grown-up atmosphere on there is well. Probably due to the D&D crowd. Lots and Lots of good folks. There are a few LEET gulds that grind their tails off, but a very friendly crowd all in all. And they just started offering free-to-play stuff.

@Signal...you can always report it bro, rather than fan some flames. This whole PC/sensitivity thing is really getting old anyway. Granted, people should refrain from saying unintelligent things, but people should also learn not to make mountains out of molehills. Not minimizing...Just sayin....

If you are mentally older than 13, skip WoW... its not the game that is the problem, its the horrible community that grew around the "cannot fail ever" gameplay. Don't get me wrong, it is possible to find good people playing WoW, its just kinda like finding a needle in a haystack. (perhaps if the haystack was dipped in sewage it would be closer to WoW)

Lineage2 is a great game and very pleasing graphics despite its age provided you can handle the hardcore PvP (anyone can kill anyone at any time, save certain circumstances) and slower advancement curve. The game is 5+ years old, but it also has one of the best communities as politics and clan relations mean everything.

Yes, you are correct. It just bugs me there are those out there who can't think of a 'better' adjective to use. I shall refrain in the future. :)

I believe DDO is completely free now or is about to be? Haven't tried it but being a D&D fan from long back I think I might try it out.

I haven't really followed it in months, but here is an IGN article:
    http://pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002791p1.html

Looks like it is going to be scaled from free for a portion, to paying for add-ons to full subscription. My sub lapsed, but I'm thinking about getting back into it as a lot of new content and one or two new classes have been added since I last played.

I'm sorry but you must have not played Vanguard for the first year it was out. I had a top of the line system 8800GTX and a Raptor HD and this game still ran like crap. It had nothing to do with being so visually spectacular that no system could handle it. It had everything to do with absolute fail on the developers part to code the game properly.

And people are right, part of WoW's success is that it is the best coded game in the world. It can run on 7 year old machines and still give a brand new machine a run for its money. I call this business genious, and if you don't think the games for you then that's fine. But I don't know how you can say you "hate everything about it" and still claim to like MMO's.

I used to be an avid WoW player (had a 70 melee shaman before WotLK came out). You can only get so far in that game before your really burn out and are just stuck with raiding (if that isnt your thing it sucks).

Just recently started playing Warhammer Online. Graphically it is the same / a little better than WoW. It is a million times better IMO because the PvP in it blows WoW PvP out of the water.

If you don't want to be stuck raiding and like PvP I suggest Warhammer Online.

Aion is absolutely beautiful. I played on the Chinese servers for about a month (with an English language patch) and I was very impressed. It's a cool game and it's great looking. Characters look great, combat looks impressive, and the flight in Aion just has something that other mmos don't offer (regardless of ability to fly).

Too bad it's not quite out yet.

If I may ask a question about the combat, is it new and innovative given the fact that you can fly?
I.e. is it just the same other mmorpg skills except now you can use it in the air!

    - OR -

Are there bonuses based on positioning in flight or skills that actually makes use of aerial combat (I can't come up with any examples of what exactly I'm looking for because I'm not that creative, but basically, is aerial combat justified? Oh wait, just came up with an example, maybe a skill that's usable when you're X height above someone *shrug* something like that... but... more innovative)

Well, your stats change in the air. Lets just say the changes are reasonable adjustments for not having any footing, etc.

I'm not sure about height but movement in general adjusts your power and stats. Moving towards an enemy boosts an attack's power but makes you take more damage. That's just one example. I'm sure it works the same in air.

The skills in Aion chain together and have unique animations (unlike WoW). It's kind of like a tree where at each level of the chain you can decide between different moves and take the chain of attacks in a different direction or generate different results.

It's a lot like skill chains in FFXI except you do them by yourself. It's pretty cool.
