I have an GT740M in my MSI GP60 laptop, battlefield 4 is playable on mid-high settings but when i play it, my GPU temp reaches over 90c almost instantly after the game loads. The bottom of my laptop did not feel very hot so I assumed the reading was wrong, but GPUZ and Afterburner are showing the same temperatures. I have cleaned the vent and fan, and while I can physically feel more airflow, the temps are the same. I highly doubt this is normal for this GPU (or any GPU), I have been holding off on playing the game for long periods of time, so I don't damage the card. Here is a screenshot of my GPUZ readings ingame, it reaches this almost instantly after the game loads: imgur: the simple image sharer

You need to repaste your GPU. You may as well repaste the CPU while you're at it. If you're not familiar with how to do this, there are plenty of YouTube guides on how to repaste a laptop. The procedure is the same once you get to the components.

Other things to try to run the laptop fans at full speed while gaming, make sure the laptop is sitting on a flat surface and not your laptop or in your bed. Try elevating the back of the laptop (put something under the laptops rubber feet) to allow for better air circulation. You could also invest in a decent laptop cooling pad, though these usually only yield a few degrees difference in my experience.

I use Antec IC Diamond myself. But really any decent paste should work fine. I think Best Buy sells the Antec Diamond in store if you have one of those near you. Otherwise go on Newegg or Amazon and search and buy a paste with good reviews. I've also used MX-4, Shin Etsu, IC Diamond 7, Prolomatech PK-4 all with good results as well.

Antec Formula 7 not same thing as IC Diamond. And Prolimatech PK-4 doesn't exist, highest is PK-3 which I use.

^^ You notice any difference between PK-1 and PK-3? Last time I bought there was no PK-3 if I am not mistaken (or was lazy and didn't see it :D but it was more than a year ago)

Sorry my mistake yes it's PK3 and you're right they're different. It is Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond Thermal Compound. Realistically though they all work pretty much the same or are within a couple degrees of each other. The application of the paste is really more important.

All work about the same except Coollaboratory liquid metal and Indigo Xtreme (low melting-point solder). :D

It's kinda odd that BF4 makes my GPU so hot, I've never seen 90+c even when running Furmark.

Maybe OCP causes GPU to throttle in power viruses like FurMark, so temps are lower?

Use line method. You need to make sure the whole die is covered. A dot can leave the corners not covered, and since there is no IHS, it needs full coverage over the entire die.

Use console command gametime.maxvariablefps 60 will limit FPS to 60 and keep your GPU much cooler.

I'd say it's less about the paste and more about how it gets applied. Most of the high end pastes are within a few C of each other, not counting CLU or CLP.

I had PK-1 on one card and PK-3 on two cards in a trifire 7970 setup and they were within 1C of each other.
