Was on the phone to MSI today and was told that when Maxwell is released (god only knows + NVidia ) that the Dominator series and the OC series will be up upgradable to Maxwell(dunno about the ONE) and a bios will be released shortly after Maxwell is released.
I don't know how true this is but it's what i got told but if it is true i won't be buying a 880m laptop ill save 300 and get 870m and put the 300 towards Maxwell. :)

Being they both have MXM and it's the same basic chassis we've had for a couple generations that's easy to access and upgrade, I 100% fully expect this to be true once the new cards are available... what the individual cards will cost and if they make sense to upgrade is a different story. I have no doubt your 870m will be a great performer regardless.

Having said that, MSI also still says, even after they are shipping, that their new GS60 includes a Maxwell GPU where as reviews and users clearly show it is Kepler.... so, knowing that, MSI is about as reliable for information as a random person you ask on the street! :D

MSI can say many things, without the final release cards they can't be sure.

Exactly I don't really believe them but it's what they told me and am glad that they said that they will release a Bios for it and @elmyo i assume it will include the OD aswell as that also has a MXM card so defiantly possible, Hope it's true as it will save a bit of money :)

Well MSI is very upgrade friendly, so they are probably correct that the GT series can identify and run the upcoming Maxwell GPUs.

Try calling them again and promptly say you will buy a notebook from them today if they can give you an estimation on when the next Maxwell cards arrive :p
"I will buy a GT70 today if Maxwell arrives before the end of the summer. Can I get a confirmation on this?"

To trick them of course. You should absolutely save your money to use on Maxwell instead

Ye I should do that and when they tell me am I ready to order ill say ye a Clevo p170sm haha, I am going to ring them and ask do they now when Maxwell will be released ill tell them it's the only way I'm ordering
Also Cloudfire do you think i should go with Dominator with 870m and i7-4800mq as I need laptop now and it's only 1150$ (cheaper than clevo) and i heard Msi have great speakers, keyboard and temps etc ?
this will leave me with 350$ towards Maxwell already :)

Surely as long as the MXM 3.0 is still utilised upgrading should be possible. The reason why my 5 year old M15x is still working.

$1150 is a sick good price man.
GT series have Dynaudio which is super nice audio system. Those speakers are really good.
The keyboard is Steelseries. Its semi mechanical and you get a good click feedback whenever you write with it. It can be a bit noisy but its super nice to use.
Temps are so and so, because it only have 1 fan. But should have no problem with a GTX 870M.
One thing thats nice about GT series is that you have direct control of the fan firmware, so people have made fan tweaking software which lets you edit the fan anyhow you want. Nice feature to either get super good cooling or just a silent system.

    :)

A general rule is add 30% onto the US price and that's what we will get. US is the best place in the developed world to buy gaming related tech.
