I had a good deal of an internal debate whether to post this as a new thread or as a post in the Witcher III thread -- the fact that I am asking about a mobile CPU weighed this very heavily in the favour of this option.
I am not a rich man, and a kind gentleman has let me have an MSI laptop he no longer needs at a knock-down price, which is very good of him. It has been held up in the post by Ophelia.
The GPU is a GTX 1080, which I believe is very good. It was being used for VR work. However, the CPU is an i7 6700HQ, rather than a 6700K -- I believe the K-series is faster.
Will I be able to play TW3, on what settings, (with mods?) and what sort of FPS ought I to expect?
If not, then I am fairly sure it will manage TW2.

I was able to play Witcher 3 on this machine (In my signature) at very high settings without a problem. Staying at 40-60 FPS with G-Sync.
I'm sure it's more than enough to handle it.Geraldus Riviensis likes this. -

You'll be fine. My AW17 with a 1070 handles it very well on high settings at 1440p.

You'll be fine outside of Novigrad, which will be CPU-limited with a 6700HQ.

Sorry to trouble you -- do you mean that ''high'' is all right outside Novigrad and medium or low is required in the city?

All of you have been a fount of help -- one thing I would ask is numerical fps?
-
Eh, I doubt you'll drop below 40 FPS in Novigrad even though there are a bunch of NPCs, I was able to play through the game without any stuttering or hiccups. Let me fire up Witcher 3 and fast travel to Novigrad, will edit the post with the FPS.
EDIT: 45-60 FPS, mostly staying around 50.Last edited: Oct 18, 2017Geraldus Riviensis and Vasudev like this. -
I enable Nvidia Hair physics for Geralt only and FPS is around 40-60 FPS with adaptive FPS.
