i just bought a MSI gx640 with 5850 1gb gddr 5, Core i7 and 8 gb ram. The only thing that had me thinking is that the ram only runs at 667 hertz according to 3dmark vantage.

Dont you guys think its a little low?

with all standard clocks and with standard vantage screen res i get a score of 8100P, does this sound right? It does to me but i think the ram has very low hertz...

The first D in ddr stands for double. To get your true frequency double that number by 2 and you get ~1333 which is the correct figure.

....So did you do anything that seemed to slow to make you think there was a problem with your ram first? Other than run synthetic benchmarks.

Even if it was 333mhz effective 667 you probably wouldn't notice.
