Is this fair for a high end MSI GT gaming series owner? I am in disbelief reading this from MSI Support center in Ontario, Canada. I might as well have purchased a Dell Inspiron or MSI GP or GS Stealth series to run old games from 2011 with such high temperatures. I feel abandoned, stabbed in the back, and out of options. Fellow owners of this model are not facing such high temps. If you are an owner please share your temps. MSI supposedly cleaned it and replaced the CPU fan but GPU still overheats. I have it elevated and all vents are unblocked and room temp is 20C. :(

When you say quickly, how quickly do you mean?

Quickly could imply bad contact of the plate and GPU.

Run Furmark or another GPU benchmark like Unigine etc. See how hot it gets under those conditions and pass on the results.

    Absolutely don't run furmark. Period.
Unigine Valley or Heaven is fine (vsync off, please).

TBH turn on Ubersampling in Witcher 2 and you've got yourself a better GPU stress test than any Unigine or 3DMark. :D

Enabling 200% Render scale in Overwatch puts more of a load on your GPU than Ubersampling does in TW2. I've tested ubersampling and found temps to be the close to the same as looping Valley (this on a 185W TDP GTX 1070 MXM). Granted I only did that on the intro level (where those knights are at war), so who knows...

Funny enough, I can run the OCCT "Power supply test" for an hour without any problem and keep normal GPU speeds. I think the Nvidia drivers deliberately throttle the OCCT" Furmark" mini test it does.

Besides you guys aren't even running furmark properly. The drivers throttle it and hide it from the user.

Rename furmark.exe to Quake3.exe and THEN WATCH THE MAGIC SMOKE COME OUT. I dare you.

I've never had any issues with Furmark. It will only cause problems if a GPU is using cheap VRM components or a ****ty cooler. Besides pretty much all drivers will throttle the card when they sense Furmak is running.

That's great mate, but reports all over the internet show that is is dangerous and has and will fry GPUs. So no need to recommend it when there are way better alternatives out there.

That is true, but its a quick download and will get him temperature results to pass on to MSi support which is why i suggested it.

Desktop cards can take it, to a certain degree on nvidia cards. Der8auer still uses Furmark in short bursts to see the maximum stress load on a GPU.

AMD cards by default have a really good power delivery system, so it can sustain furmark better. But I still wouldn't recommend to run them due to the excessive stress on the GPU silicon components themselves.

Notebook can't, they're a lot smaller and the components already run hot enough under normal use.

Power limit is everything these days. 150W is 150W regardless of whether its in game at ~1800mhz boost or ~1200mhz throttled in furmark/kombustor

Alienware told my friend a GPU has to be reaching 93C and stay there for awhile for it to be considered "overheating."

All these companies seem to not care.

To me anything over 80C is bad. But that's just me.

Max is 85C. Stock fan profile responds very late and that temps can be peak temp and not sustained temps.

they got your money, so why should they care?

and if you bought the basic warranty you've given them permission to bend you over anyways
