The title was a bit misleading as I read it: MW5: Modern Warfare 5.

    Back on the subject:
    Yay.

    Very misleading title.

I facepalmed when I saw the title, thinking to myself:

"ANOTHER Call of Duty already? Jesus...I bet it'll be a previous MW with new maps and they'll still make a killing on the sales from the mindless sheep." :p Whoops

(thought you made a typo and hit 5 instead of 4)

Personal preference perhaps as I read it as Mechwarrior 5, never been interesting in the call of duty series so probably why.

I hope it's good. I love the original MechWarrior games. And those are some massive mechs. I love the size of scale they made these ones.

I always thought of a cockpit as being the HEAD of an Atlas, not the EYE. The scale seems way off to me. Regardless, I'm excited for this game. Just hope it's got a single-player campaign instead of being solely multiplayer like the name suggests.

Yeah scale is off, but I like it. Much more massive than the past. That's the way it should be IMHO. Building size mechs battling it out. Bigger they are, the harder they fall, and the more ordnance you can carry!

Heh. Ah, MW2. I remember the good ole days. I used to just stack nothing but Autocannons, ERPPCs and LRMs. Autocannons for ripping apart anything nearby, and the PPCs and missiles for everything else.

In hindsight, I don't know how I even managed to finish the game.

Anyone remember Steel Battalion for XBOX? You can't die... or you start over completely. Like Super Meat Boy on steroids ;) Well you can eject, as long as you do it before your mech blows up, then you have to start the mission over from the beginning. It got very hard in later missions, but I did finish the game. Problem was that once you finished it there wasn't really much to do so I sold it. I started this video at 4 minute mark because that's the gameplay, rest is just about the controller, etc:

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DaiHZcr1BJ0?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&start=240"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DaiHZcr1BJ0?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&start=240" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width='640' height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>

Here was my quick video of it when I got it (2007), just booting up and the start game demo. I built the stand out of spare wood :D

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nkEOjPmAZ0Q?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nkEOjPmAZ0Q?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width='480' height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>

It's coming in well after MechWarrior.. 12/12/12
I believe they recently got an additional $10 million in funding as well, so that should really help improve the production values..

I prefered lighter and faster mechs (medium-large 65-70tons) with jump jets (realistic model, not broken ones)

3-4x ER large lasers on one arm, LBX-10 AC on the other.
AMS and at least one energy weapon stored in my torso, so the computer has a harder time cheat dis"arm"ing me. (oh look, somehow my arm went from full armor to gone from a single medium laser blast)

Plink from afar using the ER large lasers in an alternate firing pattern while smoking most defenders' LRMs with AMS. jump jet close and either DFA or LBX AC from above (ouchies) AC20s are not needed from above or behind, LBX-10 and more ammo was better IMHO.

I liked using the lasers to pierce the armor and LBX-AC to "search for crits".
Being smaller lighter, faster and having jump jets meant I got hit less and also meant I flanked easier.
(Wanna down an atlas fast, get above or behind it!)

Very much looking forward to this.

For me, a mech the size of a tank or two controlled by one person is believable; a mech the size of an aircraft carrier controlled by one person isn't.

But it's hardly a deal-breaker. I'm so psyched for this game. Like the poster above me, I enjoyed heavy mechs more than assaults. I like dual LBX20s (or even one LBX20 if the mech isn't heavy enough for dual) with some LRMs to give me cover while I get close.

I don't like the idea of an Arrow IV in multiplayer. The mech firing it is all but invulnerable, given its extreme range, and it's really hard to do anything against, since it's so powerful and has a blast radius. I'd be hesitant to include it in a player-versus-player-oriented Mechwarrior game. A mech specializing in long-range weaponry is one thing; artillery is another in my opinion.

Arrow IV would be completely impractical in a multiplayer scenario; reload time and having human opponents thrown in the mix would not make it the ideal weapon it once was in the older MechWarrior games.

For those still playing MechWarrior 2, the cheapest thing to do was to equip machine guns in every available ballistic slot. :)

It still cheap thing to do in MechWarrior 3 as well.

I wonder, if they going to bring back the vector jetpack. It was fun and easy to do DFA.

I miss doing 7 elemental vs 1 assault. Though could do that in mw4 now..

I really want a more "hard-core" simulation like MW2 vs What we got with the arcade-like MW4..

Something that shows the grand scale and size of the mechs, and tactics using a big war machine like that.
