    Hey,
I am looking for a list of MXM 2.1 cards without the HE tab. I want to try some others in my older Alienware notebook. Currently I have a 4670 which works fine. I tried a 4870 from an Alienware M17 however I saw no picture on my built in screen so I can't use that card. I have also tried a 3870 though that worked worse than the 4870.

    Any suggestions?

Not sure if the MSI bios would work in my Alienware but I can try.

    Any other card suggestions?

I would love to try a MSI 4670 DDR3 if I could find one or a MSI / any other brand besides Alienware 4850 (Tried Aienware ver, didn't work).

What about any nvidia cards like a 9600 or 9700? I tried a FX 770 but had the 30 sec startup issue.

Also is this 240M one of those "special" cards with no bios chip

the 9700m gives the same performance or less than the msi 4670m. The 240m will give you less performance as well.

    you could try the 6770m

I would need a different socket though. I have room for an MXM type III card

Sorry, but you wont be able to get MSI HD4670, unless someone part-out his MSI.

I know that. I am looking for cards = or better than the MSI DDR3 HD4670. My laptop can support a MXM type II or III card.

I have tried an Alienware 3870 & a 4850 but no luck as far as compatibility.

What are some others I can try?

Which Alien do you have, m15x-R1? Which HD4870 have you tested, with or without the extra tab? I know that m15x-R1 would run (undervolted) GTX 280M.

wait a bit, you either have a socket 2.1 or 3, you cant have both. the 6770m is the best one without heat issues in the 2.1 socket.

I have a MXM 2.1 socket in my Alienware m5750. The heatsink will support Type II or Type III cards. The 6770m is a MXM 3.0 Type A card. This will not work in my notebook.

I am looking for Type II or III cards that are better than a 4670m without the HE tab.

ur comments missleading your actually calling "type" 2.1 is a type mxm3 is a type the A B HE is size of the card the 1.5 2.1 3 is the card socket double check exactly what you need
or check mxm-upgrade (google it) and shoot them a mail.

if u have a type 2-3 compatable heatsink thats fine it just means its used on socket 2.1-3 but u need to check size dimentions eg 3.0b and so forth ebay is also a handy way to search mxm2.1a for example
    mxm3b and so forth

aaawwwhh at least you can support a type 3, my lowly 5920g can only support type 2 MAX.

your way off or your english isn't so good, here is a link to help show you the difference between TYPE III and mxm 3.0

The 6770M is definitely NOT MXM II 2.1 !

It would be without a doubt MXM 3.0 type A :) Now what you could do is take the 4670M if you have one. Desolder the core off the card and solder in its place the core from the 6770M ! There are pointers that suggest this transplant might be a success.

Try a 3850 from an MSI or the mentioned 4670 from the gx623. Guess your original card was an X1800/1900 or a 7600gt so you can use a HE card (if size matters) without the HE tab. I could use a GTX260m without the HE tab on full speed in my previous machine. (sign below) But you should try some different bios for the different cards.
