Are there any REALLY good multiplayer games out there right now that can take the place of my diablo 2 need ?

Yes... i know about world of warcraft (but honestly... crack is bad), and i know about never winter nights 2, but meh, cant really get into it...

Anyone have any suggestions for some really good massive online multiplayer games that are similar to Diablo2? (not looking for shooting, prefer more warrior / magic etc etc)

Well there are a lot of crappy free MMOs that are like Diablo 2 rip offs, but most of them are deserted, and if they are populated it's populated by bots.

    There's... Age of Conan?
Or you could try Dungeons and Dragons Online, now that it's free.
Lord of the Rings Online, which is still going strong.
Not many others come to mind, the crappy Korean MMOs usually get boring after an hour or two, so I wouldn't recommend any of those...

was doing some independent research, and came across something called Aion ./.. i am firstly put off by the 15$ monthly fee... i HATE HATE HATE having to pay for a game after a bought it...

Has anyone had any experience with Aion? what is the recomendation?

Flying looks cool, but that game also has a WoW feel (but with less race options)

If monthly fees turn you off, check out Guild Wars. ;)

so im really thinking i may be able to live with a monthly fee... possibly thinking of Aion as a game

What are peoples experiences with downloading a game from steam ? does it go away ever or there for good?

would it be better to just buy a hard copy of the game? ( i have a tendency of loosing my discs  )

if you buy a game from steam its yours unless you get banned for hacking/cheating via the VAC security system. Other than that its there for good.

If you lose your discs frequently, go ahead and use Steam. I've bought a few games on Steam and the only real drawback for me is the amount of time it can take to download and install them. Beyond that though, it's nice to be able to download Half Life or Mass Effect on any machine, anywhere, at any time, whenever I'm in the mood to kick back and play a bit. If I could, I'd move some of my boxed games over just for the convenience.

And the games stay there for ever. I bought Counterstrike on Steam way back when and it's still available for me to play.

I loved diablo 2, great game. With that being said Borderlands is similar in some ways. Hard to describe since its an FPS RPG, but its one of the best games ive played since d2

tried Guild wars? its kinda long in the tooth now but worth a look. it fills your condition of being free after you buy em though... I personally like steam, downloading a game takes an hour or two though

uh oh ... i think i went and messed myself over....

I went ahead and purchased Aion from steam, but 4 hours later the transaction is still being processed.... i dont get how this could take 4 hours...

i believe it has something to do with the email address set up with the steam account, but there is where my problem lies... my steam account was set up by my brother WAYYYY back when counter-strike first moved to steam (i think that was like 7 years ago or something) and i dont know his email address password...

Is steam waiting for me to confirm the purchase through email or something? i reset the email address to something of my own, so hopefully i will get an email soon...

I also sent a question to steam support about it, but i really hope i didnt just loose 50$ ...

How does this steam thing work? do they even send you a confirmation email before you can download and finalize the purchase? or once you hit the process button, there is no looking back?

    Any help would be great...

You should always use your own account...
It's usually instantaneous, probably a credit card problem

an e-mail confirmation is not required by steam, did they actually charge you 50$ without letting you download the game?
