My friend is convinced his mac can't play starcraft 1 because his OS is too advanced to run it. I told him that macs aren't game adapted. He doesn't believe it.

Maybe his OS is too advanced?

Hmm...well, first of all, if he's trying to play the Windows version of Starcraft in Mac OS X, obviously it won't work :D.

But in terms of power, the MacBook Pro definitely has enough power to run Starcraft. Yeah, if he's in Mac OS X, make sure to remind him to use a Mac version of Starcraft, and not the Windows version :p.

I thought most of blizzard's games came with dual discs. I know w3 does anyway, but sc1 is pretty old.

I'll punch him in his smug mac owning face later, thanks for the advice.

OS X is not the ideal gaming OS, but I believe there is a patch for Starcraft that allows you to install it on OS X without it being installed as a "Classic" app.

Yeah, unfortunately, a select few of Mac users seem to represent us in general, when most of us aren't as smug as we're stereotyped to be... :p.

I didn't have any trouble installing it. Any Blizzard game installs into OSX.

The WC3 and SC disks contain both the OSX and Windows installers, so there should be no issue with it. I have installed both games into the OSX AND Windows partition on my MBP...

Your friend sounds smug, and he annoys me.

QFT right there. Don't have SC, but I got WC3 + frozen throne, and WoW on OS X with no issues at all. He's probably doing something wrong.

to me, its like saying, "i'm too smart to know how to add numbers"

in what way are you advanced unless you have advanced FROM something? the state of being advanced is the state of being furthered along through some natural progression. it would be really hard for me to say that something is "too advanced" to do something easy.

either way, osx CAN run starcraft, you just have to download the osx installer from blizzard. the couple-of-MB installer on the disc is os9 only. you still use the disc to install the game, ie. all the installed data is the same.

and no, OSX is not "too advanced to run starcraft"

OSX is a subpar gaming platform, however. I do agree with that statement. That fact is just begging to change, and it has been for a long time.

With intel processors and new gpu's, why shouldn't apple try to get some of the gaming market? I just don't know...
