killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Looks like a GTA V reskin. Hope something worthwhile comes out, because I'm a huge Mafia and Mafia II fan.
-
I really liked the first two Mafia games as well. Will be looking out for this one.

Count me in as well. It's in my Steam wishlist for a while now.

WOW! If the game plays anything like the trailer-COUNT ME IN. Looks like a nasty gritty GTA 5. Franklin on roids.

Man that looks breathtaking. That's front and centre on my wish list now.
Fingers crossed we don't get a downgrade.Mr Najsman likes this. -

I am going to buy this, but the "pre-order" nonsense just put me off.

Everyone complained about Witcher 3, yet the game was still masterful if you just took it as a package instead of comparing it to early marketing.

Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
Really liked first Mafia. Mafia 2 was a disappoinment, with San Andreas-style damage model and overall dull driving instead of expanding on the first game. Hope Mafia 3 will be much better than GTA V in terms of driving realism, otherwise will definitely skip it.

I can definitely attest to the part where the roadside morphs into a flashback of Vietnam in the reveal trailer. My Mom told me that when she was driving my Dad back from when he was discharged after being in the infantry from 65-67 he was watching the roadside and trees the entire drive home watching for enemy troops.

bumping this thread cos the other thread (what game are you playing now?) was getting bombarded with mafia 3 posts.
decided to drop it back to 30fps because it was going between 40 and 60fps.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 9, 2016triturbo, TBoneSan and killkenny1 like this. -
This game is pretty enjoyable to me. To be honest I can't tell the difference between 40FPS and 60. I get something like 49.9FPS and 50. To me its like the difference between Blue ray and a standard DVD. Some people swear Blue ray is the greatest, I just can't tell the difference. The game has some glitches, but which AAA title doesn't; Anyone get those damn pesky cows off the roofs in FO4
, and lets not forget the fiasco that was Batman AK
. The music in that game is awesome, and it makes driving around crazy, I go off script just to listen to it. Minus the overt racism, civil unrest, crime and heroin use its seems like a great era. Wait, is that 1968 or NOW

???
If you're watching it on a small screen (like a phone), perhaps it might be difficult, but the compression artifacts on a DVD are horrendous. DVD is 720 x 480 resolution (720 x 405 for 16:9). Set your desktop to that resolution and say you can't tell the difference between that and setting it at 1080p. Or take an image that's 720x480 and set it full screen to 1080p. -

Really enjoying this game, but I can't ever tell what time of day it is!! It's day, then it's night. No mission seems to be time sensitive. My character never sleeps or eats.

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
So, after playing Mafia 3 for 22 hours, here are my thoughts:
- he city - it's modeled great and has awesome detail, with interesting districts and lots of shops and whatnot you can walk inside. I do wish it wouldn't be so dead. By that I mean trams, trains, maybe more animals in the bayou. This is why I think GTA games are superior to any time of such games, because Rockstar makes sure to make their world feel alive;
- gunplay feels very satisfying. I do wish we were allowed to carry more than one handgun. Even in Mafia you could have up to 6 handguns on you.
- love the driving, especially in the bayou to some CCR or Steppenwolf. Wish devs had included bikes tho;
- story, characters, cutscenes. By far the strongest things this game has to offer;
- performance is crap. Especially if you consider game's graphics. Some of the effect look nice, and game can have some visual charm depending on the location and/or time of the day, but again, GTA V in this regard is way ahead of Mafia III;
- AI. I think most of you already know about how bad it is. Makes stealthing piece of cake;
- gameplay, is pretty fun. And I like that there is always a stealthy way to kill everyone by whistling (which is totally OP) and, once enemy comes nearby, knocking them down;
- controls or movement, dunno how to call it. I don't like that there is a lack of consistency, you can climb some waist high obstacles, while you can't others. Devs should have made it more fluid;
- mission variety is lacking, especially considering the amount of busywork. I do like that every time you take over a racket, you get a small cutscene. Keeps things interesting;
- music is nice, but to be honest I wish they have went for a bigger variety. I have heard all these songs so many time before the game...
- no customization... Seriously, even in Mafia II you cold customize your looks and your car. Mafia III should have had that as well. I would have made all that busywork more bearable...
- limited interactions and details in the world (no lockpicking cars, kicking doors, bullet shells on the ground etc.).
Overall, the game is mediocre. But to be honest that doesn't stop me from enjoying it, just like AC Syndicate, Mad Max, MGS V. But be aware of this, it's not exactly what was advertised in the first place.Last edited: Oct 13, 2016 -

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
So, after 43h of gameplay, I finished the game.
Sad to say in the end that this game is really mediocre. Amazing city/story/characters/cutscenes, all ruined not by graphics, glitches or performance, but by repetitiveness and shallow mission design. So sad...
