So I bought Magicka on steam a few days ago, wow this is a perfect blend of arcade and modern RPG, with an almost sinister twist of parody on many many movies / games / characters / quotes.

The magick system is innovative and keeps you going, the gore and gibs are flocking awesome, and the constant scrambling for spells and occasional mess-up causing self-explosion into a shower of gore added to the flavor.

Oh and they're making "Magicka Vietnam" lol, it's a straight parody of all first person shooters, and the promotion art jests at BF:BC2.

Now just to convince my friends to buy this (it's 50x as fun in coop because magicks interact in many ways).

So yeah anyone else tried this game? How'd you find it.

We have had quite a few magicka players around :3 Me and ViciousXUSMC being among them. I haven't played it much due to the bugs though but it's probably been patched up quite nicely by now.

It's better than at launch, but you'll still encounter a few bugs from time to time. The game is a lot of fun though, nothing like blowing up monsters with magic, not to mention blowing up your friends in coop. Pure bliss ;).

Good game, especially considering the price.

EDIT: To avoid any confusion, by blowing up friends, i mean people you know, don't go nuts with the friendly fire on random people :p

I absolutely love this game. The co op is amazing. My current wish is for them to add mutliple keyboard/mouse support so local co op was much less painful. This game is IMPOSSIBLE with a controller (hmm, maybe I can make every button a macro).

Hmm is the core gameplay itself good? I'm not too into the whole indie 'satirical parody' type games usually, but maybe if the actual game itself is good I might give it a try.

It's a parody yes, but the gameplay itself is so much fun especially when you go online and do co-operative gameplay :3

Especialy blowing up your buddies by "mistake"

Here's the gameplay in a few lines: you get 8 elements mapped on QWERASDF keys, plus two more elements which are each combination of 2 elements (fire+water = steam, water + cold = ice), so totalling 10 elements. You combine these 10 elements in combinations of up to 5 charges, and release them as beam / shards / bombs / shields / mines / barriers / heal (right mouse), AoE versions of rightclick effects (shift+right), weapon enchant of those effects (shift + left), self-cast of those effects (middle). Left mouse click and drag for moving, like Diablo. Also there are ~30 big magicks like blizzard, meteor shower, haste, revive, etc. No mana, no potions, all magic (heal / damage / elements / whatever) you can imagine is within your reach with the right combination and cast method.

They went from 24 hour patches to none in the last couple of weeks really. Sort of dissapointing.

However it runs pretty well for me in its current state. I make a good host since I have faster internet and have forwarded the ports for this game.

Have not played in a while to try to maintain my skill in starcraft 2, but if you guys are down for some games I am too. This game is a great one to get on my mumble server for so you can talk back and forth during the game to help coordinate and just have fun.

I can't seem to host multiplayer games. It instantly crashes to the desktop.

lol there was a small DLC release I was not aware of before this.

Added new robe, sword, magick, and staff.

    bugged staff
    patched robes
    broken sword
    and crash to desktop magick

I thought it was a post making fun of the broken state of the game, but its a real dlc for the game that the game team made to show there sense of humor.

the CTD magick is pretty deadly too! instantly kills one random thing.

Edit: I got the magick, its pretty fun :D instant death to something. It even kills the demons when they are in there phased out state. Its not a great idea to use it in single player though as it will kill you and if you die its GG, but I bet its fun in multiplayer where you can revive.

I want to form a party of 4 where we all have the instant revive staff and just go around massivly destroying everything without friendly fire worries, including all the uber powerful spells like thunderstorm and crash to desktop.

And they're making Magicka Vietnam as a big apology for the bugginess of the original. Can't wait to see all the delicious parodies (let me guess, some of them might even come from Duty Calls - Calm Before the Storm hah).
