Is it really worth the extra 300 USD to upgrade to the video card from the Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS to the Nvidia Quadro FX 2700M? Also Battery Life is a major factor for me when configuring this laptop so if it uses a lot more power then i'll probably not get the upgrade.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but alot of times the quadro cards are based heavily on the consumer cards. The quadro cards just have open gl support, but sadly are not optimized for gaming.
I'm not sure about the current generation of cards, but I know with the 7000 series, you could flash the video bios with the quadro equivilent bios, and basically turn your card into a quadro. -
ok thanks i was just wondering if it was worth shelling out the 300 USD for it. so basically just a bigger card some open gl that's it?

If gaming performance is what you're seeking, the answer is no. The Quadro 2700M performance is on par with the GeForce 9700M GTS.
-
on paper the 2700m is weaker than the 9800m gts, 48sps vs 64sps. quadro cards are optimised for image quality and stability, and has exclusive opengl features.
if you don't use cad, stick with geforce. -
What they said. Quadro cards are for work station machines, not at all for gaming. Go for a nice GTX260 Core 216 , very nice card.
, goes for about $370

he's talking about laptop cards though

Edit: Or even better, GTX 280 FTW edition $350: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=590415 -

Anyways, I think the OP has got all the info he needs on his question. And next time, maybe try not to use 'Custom PC' as a lot of us desktop users refer to that has a System Builder's or Custom Built PC. -
Oh, okay, I feel dumb, sorry
