    Hey guys.

So I finally broke down and bought Left 4 Dead after buying Mass Effect and Trials 2 on this Steam holiday sale! I've been eyeing up X3 now, since someone mentioned it on another forum as being pretty sweet. What do you all think?

Mount and Blade also has my attention, as well as anything else you all want to throw at me. I'm in law school, so I don't get much time to play games, but I am on break (till a couple days from now when i go see the ol' girlfriend for a while) but it is nice to have something dumb and fun to come home to to get the mind off cases and whatnot. So anyhow, please help me spend my money wisely! Throw out some user ID's on Steam as well so I can play with competent teammates :D Thanks guys, cheers!

P.S. Any suggestions on what driver to have on my Sager NP 2090 8600 GT? It started bluescreening on me once I installed 180.79 (think thats the right #, might not be). Thanks again!

I played X3 for a little bit, awesome game, very deep, may not be the best idea for you if you have limited time.

Bioshock is very good, and for $5? No brainer!

i'm really thinking about getting the valve complete pack although i already have team fortress 2. I just want left 4 dead! but with the addition of portal and all those other games, it really does sound like a value! i tried half life 2, couldn't really get into it but i'll give it another shot.

    1) Left 4 Dead is great fun in the correct servers and correct mood.

    2) The value pack is priceless, to me anyways.

    3) Half-Life 2 went/goes down as one of the greatest games, if not the greatest game ever created. Try to push past the first couple of parts, the story and characters become lovable.

Hey man, once I get my new laptop back, we should hit up some Left 4 Dead, I always love playing with college folk...they usually don't suck as much.

    Steam ID is Zonoko.

If I were to recommend a game man...TF2...that game has a lot of fun and laughter packed in. Plus, it's quick, easy and doesn't require a TON - perfect for you.

I wouldn't have even considered mount and blade as I don't know much about the game and didn't know it was on sale, but because of this thread I just bought it haha. I have spent over 200 bucks on this steam sale! YIKES! Also X3 is a really great game, but takes tons of time to play so if you don't have a lot of time to put into a game I would say leave it alone. If you can however it is awesome!

    ID Super FTW!

Oh and L4D ROCKS I pre-ordered it and have been enjoying every millisecond of game play!

the thq pack is a great deal if you don't have most of the games already. X3 is extremely time consuming and rewarding if you like deep space sims, but there are huge problems with bugs and crashes.

It takes a hell of a long time to do aything in X3! Although it looks pretty and has some cool music which is nice to have when the main objective for 90% of the game is to fly in a straight line for five minutes to get to your next destination.
I still liked it, even though i didn't get very far :)

I know, I've spent $50 already and a couple titles I already have on DVD. Why doesn't Steam offer an "everything we have" sale so one price to buy every game available on Steam. Wonder what that cost would be at the existing sale rates?

My problem is that I own many of the games in the game packs, and it really wouldn't make sense to buy it for the remaining games by that dev/publisher.

I have a 640GB hard drive dedicated just to games. No problem here.

I am in the process of backing up all my Steam games. I bought a 400GB WD Passport just for this task, plus game mods, patches, etc I've collected over the years. Yes, a PITA, but will be much more organized when all is said and done.

ha, yep, I threw a 500GB drive in my tablet simply because I love having all my Steam games ready to go whenever... wish there was a way for multiple install locations, but I understand the limitation, so just buy bigger hard drives ha...

Down to 100GB free on this 500GB, love the games ha

EDIT: going to pick up X3 because of this post, I never bothered to look at it because I thought it was a strategy game, not a space sim... I LOVE space sims! Thanks for the post and making me look.... and I agree, this Steam sale is awesome!

I have 320GB external eSATA drive specifically for Steam and some misc files (using my Macbook Pro). The drive is a Seagate brand ES.2 model in an Antec MX-1 enclosure. I'm almost out of space, so I'm upgrading to a 1TB Seagate 7200.11 drive using the new and improved 333 GB, 3 platter system. I'm going to put it in a Rosewill RX-358-S BLK external enclosure with eSATA and USB2.0 support.

External drives over eSATA perform wonderfully.

It was really easy, actually. I just backed up all of my steam games into a single massive backup file (you can do that, though I'd recommend breaking it up into 2 or 3 backups for safety). Then I deleted all local content for each game manually. Then I uninstalled Steam from my C drive and reinstalled it on my new D drive. Then I restored all the games!

Only took about 1 hour for 40 games, not counting the backup time, which took my 2.4GHz processor about 2 hours.

Save games and the like SHOULD be alright, provided they aren't stored in the Steam directory. Most of them are stored in things like the documents folder if I remember, if they are stored in the Steam directory, you'll want to back them up first.

You decide where the backup file goes. It doesn't really matter where you put it.

a different way to copy your Steam games is just copy the folder from the SteamApps\common folder, which is where the files are stored.... it's actually really easy to copy the games to a new location.... search the support section on Steam and they'll give you a couple of different step by step instructions. i've gone between 5 or so pc's, and have never had to even use the backup function, just simply copy the files

Agreed, M&B definitely gets old fast. I DL'd the demo and didn't even bother to finish it. The combat bits are cool at first, but also become pretty repetitive. The overall interface belongs in 1995.

Be77, all you have to copy is the steamapps folder? My computer is doing it already it only has about 10 minutes left so do i delete steamapps from C: Drive once its done?

Also when i download/install a game will it install in c: drive still?

please thank you and let me know asap :D

    Here ya go:

Please observe the following process to move your Steam installation between hard drives or machines:
    Exit the Steam client application.
Browse to the Steam installation folder (C:\Program Files\Steam by default) for the Steam installation you would like to move.
Move the steamapps folder from the Steam installation folder to your desktop.
Review the Uninstalling Steam topic for instructions to uninstall Steam (this must be done to remove your old Steam installation settings from the Windows Registry).
Review the Installing Steam topic for instructions to re-install Steam to the desired location.
Move the steamapps folder into the new Steam installation folder to copy all of your downloaded game content, settings, and saved games to the new location.
Start Steam and log in to your existing Steam account to confirm that the move was successful.

After doing this, the games might update for a second or two just to verify and whatnot, but then they'll be ready to play! Should be ready to go. This will then install all future steam games into the new location. Hope this helped.
