First of all, I'd like to say that I'm a huge fan of Rockstar, GTA, and Manhunt 1. Manhunt for the PC was an amazingly fun game...it was scary, action packed, bizarre. So naturally, I was expecting I'd be excited when Manhunt 2 was announced. And it turned out, I was excited..............for a while. I read more and more about the game.....and after the whole AO rating business came...I just lost interest in it. I don't really fancy sawing people's nuts off.
So, the latest news is that they are going to release Manhunt 2 on Halloween...and it is M rated.
Personally....even though I'm not getting the game now...I feel like Rockstar just gave in. After all the GTA controversy, I expected that they would figure out a way to keep it intact.
Am I the only one who thinks this is....somewhat...unlike Rockstar?

Im scared of games like manhunt, bleh, gives me the willies

Well....I'd say it was pretty awesome to use an aluminum bat and help thugs hired to kill you....part with their heads

It's one thing to make a statement, it's another to completely ruin your business. Both Sony and Nintendo refuse to have AO titles on their machines, and most retailers - Bestbuy, Circuit City... - refuse to stock AO games. The ESRB may be limiting ROCKSTAR, but at least it's not banned by law here, unlike some other countries.

yeah....I understand that AO titles are strictly banned from the major consoles....so it would be a retarded business decision to actually let that rating slide when releasing the game. However, I just think that the game will now be watered down...even though it will still be extremely violent. It's not the original version of the game, which makes me angry.
The frickin double standard annoys me. Movies can have anything they want....but games have to get laws and all this nonsense passed. Even with Bioshock....people are already talking about how they have Little Sisters and if you let the player kill children in the game....come on....please... -
You have to let popular culture slowly accept things. Most of today's "R" Rated movies wouldn't be acceptable back in the 1960's. It will probably be the same thing with video games. People will accept more and more violence as video games become more popular.

man is there even an AO rated game out right now? i would personally buy the game just for the fact that its rated AO. its kinda like going to a movie and seeing that a movie is rated R for strong pervasive gore and violence. doesnt that raise the curiosity in ur mind?

The difference between movies and video games is the level of interaction the viewer/gamer has with the media. In movies, viewers are basically audiences, they have no influence on how the movie goes. With games, players are give the opportunity to decide how the game is going to continue. This I believe is the main difference between movies and games.
Manhunt 2 M-Rated?....pffff
