    Mass Effect 2 Story? (WARNING - SPOILERS)

    I have mass effect 2 and i already recruited everyone and completed all their loyalty missions and 90% side quests and am about to pass through the Omega relay. Is the game pretty much done?

    (just don't tell me the story, just about how much of the game is left in comparison to what I have already finished)

    Pretty much. You have a mission ahead of you which is slightly longer than the loyalty missions. Then you're done.

    Yeap pretty much, although i finished the game a month ago so i dont recall everything, i think its the last mission before the main story ends.

    Max out your ship upgrades, and run the loyalty missions for -all- your teammates.

    In addition, you've to pick the right teammates for the right jobs...

    Yeah upgrade your ship also and pay attention to the cues when selecting a teammate for a specific task. True tech specialist for the infiltration, powerful biotic user as a shield and true team leaders(people that have actually led teams) for the different squads anyone will do for the escort part. Mess up here and people will die.

    Yes, however even when you chose right people for various tasks, they still have a small chance to die.

    Everyone survived.
    Hehe ...

    It was interesting, and a bit of a dilemma on which people to choose from for certain missions, but I was able to pull it off with a desired effect (survivability of the entire team).

    I will definitely say the game is superbly made.

    mordin died on me when he was chosen to crawl through the ducts and legion died on my when he was trying to help Jacob who was my biotic shield. who should i choose to prevent them from dying?

    also, should i give the illusive man the collector base?

    Choose Jack or the asari justicar as your shield, and a tech specialist such as Tali or Legion for moving through the vents.

    Whether you choose to destroy the collector base or not is a moral decision as well as a matter of trusting the Illusive man with it. I chose to destroy it, even though my Shepard is a jerk.

    You know ... preserving the Collector's base would likely reflect better in ME3, since it would effectively translate into superior technology and somewhat level the playing field with the 'Reapers'.

    I chose to destroy the base myself following a Paragon path and everyone surviving.
    I can simply alter the outcome in the final mission so the base is preserved.

    But what I don't like it how BIOWARE made the decision for preserving the Collectors base as a Renegade option.
    It's a sound option that would provide everyone with a better fighting chance.

    Alternatively, yes I can see how Cerberus would probably use it to seize power as well even after the main 'Reaper' threat is gone.

    It's almost as if the Illusive Man was advocating for 'Humans only' solution ... and even in real life, I wouldn't support that.
    Too self centric.

    But the Collector base IS a technological source that could be used for better protection.

    Problem is that BIOWARE doesn't really acknowledge the grey area, (or neutral standpoint to be exact) when decisions are made in ME.

    Very true, the problem with introducing a morality system is that not everyone will agree with the developer. I had to think for a few minutes before choosing to destroy the Collector base; I seriously considered keeping it, but figured that destroying it would make ME3 doubly interesting.

    I din't destroy the base because of Cerberus but because every single thing that was Reaper related created endoctrination. The dead reaper corrupted the people inside. I also decided that keeping it would be following the path the reaper wanted us to follow as Legion said instead of tracing your own path. If cerberus wants to study the get technology, they can always study the pieces from the explosion, keeping the whole thing around and fully operationnal was too dangerous.

    I don't think the 'morality system' as such is at fault ...
    Rather, the limited options presented within it are to blame.
    Then again, I am of the opinion that 'morality' is nothing more than a made up concept by Humans (us) which was deemed necessary for creation and maintenance of a (predominantly immature) society we have today.

    BIOWARE has a tendency of making really good games though.

    KOTOR 2 (which was not made by Bioware, but was based off KOTOR) for the duration of the game had that Sith woman tutoring the 'Jedi Exile'.
    For the most part, she appeared as 'Neutral' on the level scale, and most of the things she mentioned about the perception of life/universe during her 'lessons' was far more diverse at times than a single minded 'lighter' or 'dark sider' usually uttered.

    In any event, how she structured her responses to reflect a balanced opinion of the universe, actions, reactions, consequences, seemed more intelligent and insightful.

    Picking the 'grey' options would have reflected more life-like decision making (and in my perception, more mature) in Mass Effect for example.
    From what I saw right now ... the options are limited, and some neutral options (that never bring any points) leave some things to be desired.

    Aside from that, the game is still good.

    Don't get me started on the lack of gay romance option though because that's another thing I'm sad they never implemented (especially given their track record in Jade Empire and Dragon Age: Origins).


    The 'Reapers' (per story) never expected Humans would interfere to the level that they did.
    Or to be precise, Shepard interfered in a more unpredictable manner because of his exposure to the Prothean beacon on Eden Prime, and they still managed to beat Saren and his 'Sovereign' with technology that was based off Prothean/Reaper tech to begin with.
    The 'Reapers' primarily thrived on secrecy. With the secrecy gone, and their tech in the hands of the opposing party, it can be used to turn the tide.
    Indoctrination is a tricky thing though.
    With Collectors gone and the technology inert, there is nothing to set it off (aside from Cerberus researchers).
    All other instances of 'Reaper' tech were not inert 100%.

    As the story itself suggests, most of the races evolved up to a specific level via the technology 'Reapers' left behind.
    The Protheans apparently evolved at a faster pace compared to other races and managed to start getting in depth with how 'Reaper' technology actually worked.
    They managed to reproduce a Mass Effect relay on Ilos on a smaller scale and link it to the one on the Citadel.

    Majority of races would probably follow 'Reaper' expectations and end up destroyed when the purging cycle was complete, ending up unaware of the 'Reaper' threat.
    But even among the average, you usually end up with variables.
    Species, or individuals, capable of conceiving things outside the box and thus 'break the limits'.

    The Protheans almost did it, but their realization of the 'Reapers' came too late (right at the time of when the 'Reapers' returned).
    For Humanity and races depicted in ME games we are playing, they were exposed to the 'Reaper threat' with just enough time to set things in motion that could give them a chance.

    True that no one aside from Cerberus is willing to acknowledge the 'Reapers' as a threat, but at the same time, launching a variety of dangerous missions that were specifically designed to counteract the 'Reapers', it sets things in motion.
    And no one (as far as we know from the current story) apparently managed to do anything remotely similar to counter the 'Reaper' threat.
    Perhaps one of the races did it (but ultimately failed despite their efforts) hundreds of thousands of years ago, but we heard 0 mention of it.
