It seems Mass Effect has some problems running behind Aero.

    So try this:
Right click on Mass Effect.exe, on the Compatibility tab, check "Disable Desktop Composition"...

    Uh, something's weird then.

Try disabling UAC, running compatibility mode with XP SP2...

What is your system spec and what version video driver are you running. If you can get to the "press any key" screen. More than likely it's driver related problem.

I had the same problem also...you have run the game as administrator....Right click on masseffect.exe file and hit...run as administrator.

i am using...169.xx version...i think that you have run the game as administrator like i said....that worked for me.

Go to the masseffect directory...then binaries folder...Right click on masseffect.exe file and hit...run as administrator.

    hope that works.

I don't mean to break out my lecture stick, but I hate to say it, this is just another reason why Vista and PC gaming get a bad rap. Why do you have to jump through all these hoops to get a newly released PC game to work.

Because game developpers can't release a stinkin patch or self updater to make use of Vista and DX10 :)

...and some of us have had NO problem yet. Then again my 360 got the red rings last month but different problem.

Compared to Witcher, that crashes about every 2 hours of game play, ME has been great. As usual, YMMV.
