Okay so I know they are two completely different games and are hard to compare to each other but I can only get one so I'd like to get some more opinions on which game to get. Basically I like the new idea of CoH with the RTS gameplay that is more tactical than just build up a fortress and then go attack. Basically I loved KoToR so I know Mass Effect will have just as good of a story and I've heard its got great replayability. I want to get the game that is going to last longer for me, I don't want to play through Mass Effect once and be bored of it and I don't want to just finish the campaign in CoH and be done with it either. I also was told with my system I can run ME on low-medium and CoH dx9 medium if that will factor into the decision at all either i Don't know. Thanks for whatever advice you can give me.

If you loved KoToR then you will absolutely love Mass Effect. As long as your system exceeds the minimum system requirements it's an incredibly fun game.

There are tons of variations to ME, both male and female main characters, three different origins, three different career histories, seven combat types, and multiple specialties. Each one of those makes the game play different, and on top of that almost every decision you make has a good, bad, or in between option that produces a different outcome.

I've completely played through ME at least 7 times now (on my 8th as of today) and I'm still finding lots of little easter eggs hidden in the game and some of the results of your decisions make for some funny moments.

If you care more about strategy get CoH, if you want a fun KoToR-like experience get Mass Effect.

I'd go for Company of Heroes. But then I'm an RTS fan so I would. :D What kind of specs do you intend to play on. I play CoH on high at 1440*900 with no problems on my notebook (see sig for spec).

So right now ME-2 CoH-1 and my specs should be in my sig now...and i won't be able to get fully medium on anything because of my video card so graphics won't play into my decision much I don't think.

Basically, if you want single player, Mass Effect has the most replayability by far, but for multiplayer (easy since ME doesn't have one) CoH is a great choice. I'm on my 3rd playthrough. However, multiplayer CoH is a blast. In the long run if you really enjoy CoH multiplayer, that'd probably give you the most replayability.

    Both games are great though.

Go Company of heroes, campain is fun, multiplayer is excellent, I've played it way more than mass effect. Mass effect I beat once and had no interest in replaying the story agian.

Okay well right now I think I'm fairly sold on CoH unless someone can give me a good reason why Mass Effect would be a lot better. Hearing that the multiplayer is good for CoH was great and the fact that I can get CoH plus the expansion seems like a good deal to me and its definitely not like anything I've played before. I have played RTS'es but those were like AoE III and those type of RTS'es.

Well, I think I'll be getting CoH then because overall it seems like the best choice. I asked in the "will it run" but I had a quick question (since itll be easier to ask here) , will I have to install modded drivers to run the game or can I still run it on stock drivers (specs are in sig)

    Thanks a bunch everyone.

I haven't played Mass Effect, But all I can tell you is that I've played 250+ online games of COH & everygame is just as unique and different from the last.

    So,

    Multiplayer - COH

    Single - Probably Mass Effect

Stock drivers will do fine probably but modded drivers like from laptopvideo2go.com can give you some extra fps.

About CoH, be prepared to learn a lot of new phrases.
You'll probably remember them for live! ;)
    Like;
" Squad no mercy! Close in and shoot those bastards in the face!"
" A little hose, some gas and a lighter and BOOM!"
" Lemme guess, you found Nazis and you want 'em dead?" (CoH quotes)

Aaah, what a game, what a game.
    You'll love it. Have fun. :D :D

Alright thanks again guys, and I'll see how i like it first with stock drivers I guess and if I really feel the need to change it I'll follow the instructions on here to do it. And yeah, I really think I'm gonna enjoy the multiplayer aspect.

Well I don't actually have my lappy yet but today I'll be going out to get CoH plus the expansion since I already have plans to go out to Best Buy today, might as well save gas. Maybe I'll load it up on the desktop and play for a little while depending upon when my lappy is shipping.

Playing ME on low-Medium will not be pleasant. Go for CoH. Way more replayability.

I know everyone says ME has tons of replayability, but I had NO desire to play through it more than once. Yes, I played the KOTOR series and thought they were worth playing through more than once.

Depends on which type of game you prefer. Personally CoH was better than I expected and Mass Effect was a bit of a letdown. Dont get me wrong, the game is gorgeous and it has some obvious qualities, but I just got bored of it real quick.

IMO CoH is a much cooler game

Well, I now have a copy of Company of Heroes Gold Edition in my possesion which was $30 and I must say it looks to be a steal. Now all I need is my laptop to be shipped lol, I kind of did this out of order...I am going to wait for the laptop before I play it though as much as I want to boot it up right now on our desktop.

So I did get the gold pack and my laptop came yesterday so I booted the game up when I got home at 11 PM and after all the paching I did the tutorials and played the first mission, which was awesome. And right now I am on the second and its acutally taking a long time to complete (I think thats only because I'm not very good and getting used to the micromanaging of squads.) First of all I try and leave a squad with an MG at each point I capture but the enemy never ever tries to recapture them, so would it be safe for me to move those men out to the frontlines? I've left a few points open and nothing has happened, then again it may be the way the level is designed after all, the Germans are dug in at their AA and I've cut off their road patrols so they arn't exactly going to go mobile I guess, so I think I just answered my own question, dont you just love that? lol

I was also a huge fan of KotOR (and still believe it to be one of the best RPGs made, to date, with a perfect balance of guided storyline and open-endedness), so I jumped on Mass Effect the moment it was released. I played Mass Effect twice and loved it. I'm looking forward to playing through a third time when I snag my new NP5796, and I'm even more eager to play the sequel , as they come.

Mass Effect is only the opening act in what promises to be a wonderful, theatrical, epic story, and for the first act, it encompasses a tremendous amount of wonderful story elements, without firing all the shots too early. The game has a terrific and incredibly satisfying ending: something a lot of modern games and films lack, nowadays. At the same time, it leaves plenty of material to work with in the sequels. I'm excited.

The environment, characters, and acting are all very believable and immersive. Your main character reacts very well to your sculpting. If you want him/her to play like a valiant paladin archetype, that's how they'll act. If you want them to play a cunning spy archetype, that's how they'll act. If you want them to play a ruthless, hardboiled archetype, that's how they'll act. I've never been more pleased with a playable character in my roleplaying experience.

If you have even an inkling of geeky blood in you, you will fall in love with the game's sci-fi world and history. The alien races are imaginative and not ridiculously cliche, but are based on familiar principles and become very easy to "socialize" with and familiarize. These aren't the hideous, unapproachable monsters of Star Wars (please don't kill me, Star Wars fans), these aliens are people, too, and you'll learn to love them all: even the deliberately slow and monotonous elcor.

The life-or-death decisions you have to make near the end of the game made me really feel like my input was going to have serious, long-lasting effects on the future of the story, and I know that this is only the first series of many massive decisions to come. Bioware has confirmed that, in sequels, the decisions you make in this first act will carry over into the next act. That, to me, is incredibly exciting: it means that everything I do throughout this game has the potential to lead to serious repercussions.

I must admit, not many of those repercussions are found in this first game. This entire game feels like setup: you're just deciding for yourself the background of the next few games, when the bulk of the story is going to take place. It almost feels like you're playing an amazing prequel to an amazing trilogy. This way around, however, your prequel is going to have a dramatic impact on the trilogy.

The game is wonderfully paced, and neither too long or too short. I didn't start getting even a little bit antsy until just before the well-timed climax, and I blame this mistiming on technical problems that lost me about 2 hours of gameplay.

Combat and action-gameplay is entertaining, and can be as precise or fast-paced as you want it to be. I found myself playing a sniper/technician at first, and after trying a couple of other class combinations, have determined that my gut instinct is still the correct choice for me. The classes play almost exactly as you would expect them to.

When playing combat-oriented classes that rely heavily on gunfare, you can get by entirely on shooter maneuvers: finding cover, lining up a clever shot, and firing away. The RPG elements of the game integrate very nicely with traditional FPS skills, and your skill will almost always be the determining factor in a battle: not your character's stats.

When playing ability-oriented classes, you'll very rarely feel rushed while selecting skills and trying to keep up with combat. The freeze-frame skill selection menu is wonderfully designed, and I'm a huge fan of the game's radial menus. Even for mixed classes who tango between shooting and skills, you'll find the transitions back and forth to be seamless. If you're comfortable using special grenades and equipment in normal shooters, you won't be overwhelmed by occasionally using your character's special abilities during a gunfight, here.

Side features like planet exploration and vehicular exploration/combat are satisfactory, although I must admit, there is still plenty of room left for them to improve in sequels. The ground-vehicle Mako's controls are awkward and take a lot of getting used to, and when you're on rocky/hilly terrain, the camera controls will frequently allow you to aim at places that the cannon cannot reach, so your shots will end up higher or lower than expected, which makes it extremely difficult to pick off snipers and automated turrets from a distance.

Dialogue? I'm one of those gamers who normally feels obligated to talk to every NPC about everything, and leave no dialogue option unturned, for fear of missing something important. I usually treat dialogue as just another game mechanic: a way to boost my score or beat the next scene.

Everything about dialogue and NPC interaction in Mass Effect is shockingly well designed and choreographed. If you thought KotOR was cool, prepare to be blown away. The dialogue system in this game puts every other RPG I've ever played to shame.

First of all, your interactions with NPCs will not feel forced. You will know when you should talk to someone, and you will often be able to anticipate their conversations, too. Likewise, you will also know when an NPC is just going to have something menial to say. If you choose to talk to them, you will be rewarded with something humorous or informative, but if you don't talk to them, you're not going to miss something important.

Secondly: I was surprised when I noticed myself communicating with NPCs very naturally, as if I was actually talking with them, instead of just digging for the "right answer." The fact that personality traits are not axially opposed allows you to say what you want to say, what you would really say, without worrying about how it will affect your game later down the road.

You can play this game's dialogue as if you were really there. I don't know about you, but I don't walk up to everyone I meet at the grocery store and ask them what they're thinking about. Mass Effect doesn't expect you to. Mass Effect lets you behave how you would actually behave. If you want to know more about something, you can drag out a conversation. If you know what's going on and just want to get going, you don't have to waste time digging around for important things you might miss. I did not make any dialogue decisions in any of my game time that I ended up regretting.

I recommend Mass Effect to anyone with a drop of geeky blood in their veins. You will not be disappointed.

Haha, I guess the ME crown stops by at the threads later, I did end up getting CoH but I think I may just go and get Mass Effect as well, but KoTorR II would be cheaper and I havnt played it yet either and think I may get that because of cost, because isn't ME still around $50?

I guess not all games are for everyone, I've never played CoH before and I don't mind RTS games and I like WWII games ... is it really that good of a game. Possibly better than Star Wars: Empire at War? because that is my favorite RTS game.
