What's a good Master of Orion replacement? I had a great time playing them and want to see if there is something similiar but more modern out there.

SoaSE is definitely great, though it is real time (but epic real time, not twitchy). Galactic Civilizations and GalCiv II are also good, and they are turn based.

I agree, the Sins or GalCiv games will do you proud. You can get them via Stardock's most excellent DL service Impulse.

MOO series, especially II, are classic!

Another vote for Galactic Civilizations 2...

And Space Empires V is good after it's patched...very detail oriented like MoO 2 if that's your preference...can find it cheap every now and then on Steam...

Sword of the Stars is decent, too...

For a good production planet, ultra-rich and rich is real good, but if it's a tiny or small world, not gonna be a great one.

Consider a system of some large/huge worlds, put a leader with a production/morale/environmental bonus in it, and watch your fleet grow quickly.

Put everyone to produce hammers, import food from other systems.

Mid game, get android workers, their +2 production will make a great impact.

Late game, Orion itself can squeeze out a doomstar every 2 turns with a confederate production race. (Sakkra! Beware!!)
