I have an on-board Intel 945GM video card on my Acer 4202WLMI laptop. Just wondering whether it's only capable of 1280x800 (my current highest available resolution under XP SP2) or would it be possible to switch to even higher resolutions with an external display? I'd be aiming for 1680x1050 or thereabouts.

The reason for this is that I would love to hook up an external LCD monitor for high-res photo editing. And yes, I know this laptop model has no DVI output so I would have to stick to VGA unfortunately.

    Well, easy way to check.

XP= go to properties, go to settings, and you'll see the number 1
    monitor and number 2 monitor

you should have number one by default

and now, go to number 2 monitor, and see how much max it can display

I should have been able to figure that one out by myself. Having a slow day, I guess. Anyway, the card is definitely capable of the resolution I'm trying to get from it. Thanks for your help!
