I know Southern Islands supports up to 4K over HDMI, but what about Kepler and the HD 4000?

    680M: Max 2560x1600 HDMI
    HD4000: Max 1920x1200 HDMI

EDIT: It says "Maximum digital resolution" on the 680M. Not shure if that is HDMI or not

Yeah, the "maximum digital resolution" bit confused me too - I'm not sure if Nvidia's saying that DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort can all handle 2560x1600, or if they're trying to hide their shortcomings by only giving the DisplayPort resolution

Not sure about intel graphics, but hdmi through pretty much any nvidia card since 480m should give you at least 2560x1600 via hdmi.

    ..
..or, of course, I could be mistaken and Apple owns a copyright on higher resolutions.

IIRC there was a thread about this a while back and result was that Intel does limit HDMI output to something like 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 which makes Optimus machines not too optimal for driving larger external monitors. I think analog Displayport is along the lines of 2560x1600 though.
