Maybe the only con with playing an RTS.

It would have to be that time goes by so fast!
I once played a huge 4 way match in AOE 3, this past summer and by the end of the match(meaning each empire was destoryed) it was 3 hours long.

I normally dont like to stay in one position for more than an hour especially playing a game but it went by so fast. So that's why I limit my time on RTS games.

But now that imperium romanum is coming out, i'm not quite sure how i'm going to juggle school/work/gaming/friends.

Does anyone have this problem when playing an RTS?

It takes me 1 hour to kill 5 other people in AoE3. But yeah, those games take a long time. I was playing RTW and I thought I was there for 10 minutes and it had been 4 hours. I have that same time problem, but I usually find the time to play it with all of the other stuff I have to do.

EDIT: BTW, Imperium Romanum came out yesterday.

My local gamestop doesn't have any yet then. I think the release for it is tomorrow, but I"m not sure.

All i know is that it's coming soon.

Heh, I can tell you your not alone with a RTS problem. Time sometimes makes a habit of seemingly vanishing into thin air while i play :p

Any game that sucks you in can do that.

I remember the days of saying to myself "I'll only play till 11pm" and the next time I looked at the clock it was 3AM!

Well, that's not my problem :p. I usually finish an RTS game in about 45 minutes or so...I used to play in the style of resist attacks, build up an extreme battalion and wreak havoc, but now, I mainly start off with a weak force just to annoy the enemy. Yeah, rushing :p.

Personally, I am waiting for the recently announced Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Starcraft 2.

No, you're just waiting to take Chaz's job :p

I can't wait for Empire: Total War. But any of the Total War series games, takes up my whole day. They are so time consuming.

Yea I definitely find RTS games take up more of my time than FPS games. Thats kind of love what about FPS, you can get your hearts fill of gaming in around two hours then be on your way. RTS you realize the time has flown by since you started.

You're bringing back those Starcraft memories back in middle school. Teachers always asked why I looked so tired at class.

Nowadays with CoH, WiC...There is just no cure for it... I'm doomed!

Well then try command and conquer 3 which is more fast paced. I am awaiting the new red alert but Kane's wrath is coming out later this month at least.

Some of the TBS genre games are real time sinks if you get into them, Civilisation 4 can be a good way of seeing the sun rise when you start playing after dinner.

Anyone here ever play Total Annihilation? My god, some of the LAN's we used to have were epic. One game we started at 6pm, finally finished at 3 in the morning. Not kidding here, was an epic game.

And it only gets worse with Supreme Commander. I love going up against 2 cheating AI's with a mate. Regular 3 - 4 hour games, that frequently end in us being defeated, but still awesome fun. I highly recommend this game people.

^ Hehe I know what you mean!

Now I have Sins of a Solar Empire... It's only going to get worse now. At least you can save multiplayer games in it. I hate the fact you can't save SUPCOM multiplayer games.

I thought RTS as time sinks was a GOOD thing, I like playing games that can keep me hooked for hours at a time.

You dun win wars in 5 mins time. If it's so, WW2 would have ended just as it has started. The kind of accomplishment I get from beating a RTS is way more than what i get from FPS (for me personally, I generally stay away from FPS since I ll puke if i play it for more than 30 minutes)

If you want to just forget about the next 24 hours of your life, start a large Sins of Solar Empire map with more than 4 players. You'll burn a good 14 hours.

Starcraft battles are epic. Take a lot of time, if you face a very good opponent, mainly Koreeans. Those dudes have a 4 h daily gaming quota for SC :D
I like to play Stacraft RPG maps lately, it`s a lot of fun in multiplayer that way :D

I never really got into starcraft. My friend had it and it just wasn't enticing enough for me to want to get addicted too.

On the other hand he showed me the age of empires series, medival war series and others, and I have been playing RTS games since.

I usually only get time to play RTS on weekend only because the epic battles can take a long time, and I play FPS/Console games during the week when I have an hour on the computer.

I've always enjoyed RTS games because they engross you and take time and brains. The problem is with a hectic work schedule, its often hard to find the time to play them!

Starcraft was good fun at LAN's, but I never really got into it. Im more a fan of large scale strategic RTS. I loved the Total War series. AOE was ok, TA and SUPCOM are my favourites though.

    Starcraft rocks!!!!!!!!

It does take quite a lot of time but I am also a RPG fan, so 4 hrs is short for me(I play RPG games long, If i really liked the game then even longer)

I never really got to play starcraft in LAN because Computer games in 1996 were still rare or even extinct in our country
