hey everyone,
I just got my hands on a beta key for the new Medal of Honor, and I figured that other members on NBR probably do as well, so let's talk about it!

I just finished installing the game and so far, the beta is uber bugged:

- Got stuck in the key mapping options section because it wouldn't let me go "Back" or "Save". Eventually I got out of the menu, but let's just say my Esc key was mashed numerous times.
- Server browser is bugged as well. The game servers show up on refresh, but then disappear. I actually haven't been able to play the game yet because I can't join any servers!

I'm going to keep dinking around with it trying to get it to work....

 

I got a key and played it the night it came out.

I have to say, I didn't quite like it much.

It felt to much like Bad Company 2 (although a little less than the game), and felt somewhat like MW2 as well.

I don't think I will be buying this game (I had such high hopes for it too), only because if I wanted to play a game that felt like BFBC2, then I would go play BFBC2, and the same with MW2.

I just didn't like the feel of the game, and there is a crap lot of things I wish they would take out/put in (even though it's still a beta).

 

i got a key for the ps3 version but isnt talking about it a violation of the terms of agreement?

 

yup,sure is.
like most beta games when you download it you agree to their terms which normaly states no discussion outside of the games own forum (if they have one)

i missed this one.me thinks its time to look for a key

I got mine today n to be honest din like it! it felt like a cross between counter strike source and BC2... that way they run n all that seemed to much like CS source! Din feel comfortable with it! BC2 felt way better!!

 

I played the beta for about 3 hours and uninstalled after that. IMO it feels like a crappy mod of BC2 and the gameplay doesn't feel original or good at all.

I'll stick with BC2 for MP, maybe I will check out the SP of MoH depending on the reviews since it's not developed by DICE and I always liked the SP of the previous MoH games. (which includes MoH: Airborne )

 

i respect what they are doing with the campaign, but the multiplayer just lacks its own identity

I thought EA killed off MoH a long time ago.

 

Well i cant exaclty "pre-order" here. If i can then i should have done a long time ago.

I got to the BC2 BETA when i asked for it sooo i am doing the same for MOH BETA.

 

Bad company 2/ CoD/ MoH- so done with games like this. The later especially, they were like "wait we can do modern combat too! 3-5 years late, but please play me!".

 

I have to admit I was really pumped for MOH -- I was a huge fan of MOHAA back in the day -- but this DICE made MOH is very average at best. It is uninspired, it feels like BC2, but not as polished. It tries to be MW2, but fails.

I'm not sure what DICE was thinking when they put this out there.

 

I'm getting into the beta more and more. You might want to edit your settings.ini, though; the FOV is 55 by default, that's even worse tunnel-vision than MW2. At least we can edit it, though.

I've mostly been playing the Rifleman class, and just made it to level 5. I unlocked the suppressor for the M16/AK-47, but I'm mostly sticking with the LMG's that I unlocked the previous level (M249 SAW and PKM). I've gotten maybe 2 kills each with the Sniper and Special Forces classes.

Also, does anyone know how to get sidearms and rocket launchers? I've seen people using them and gotten killed by them a few times, but I can't find anything about them in the Unlock Tree.

 

Click on "setup gear" or something (I forgot the exact name) before you respawn, then click on the left/right arrows to cycle through your main weapon/sidearms, you should be able to choose pistol and rocket launcher.

To switch your weapon to pistol/rocket launcher, I believe the default key is 2 or 3, maybe 4. Anyways, it's one of those keys.

 

Wow, yeah if anyone doesn't want their key or have a spare I'd love to try it out too!

 

That's the thing, when I cycle through weapons in the Change Gear menu, all I can choose is my M16 or M249 (or AK and PKM). No sidearms or launchers for any classes.

 

Hopefully it still works because I used it, but then un-installed it.

It's been a week since I played so I don't know if anything's changed, but everyone gets sidearms and that's bound to the 1 key. Rocket launchers are only for special ops. Also, snipers get C4 while Riflemen get the grenade launcher (unless you're using an LMG).

 

How do you use the grenade launcher? I've tried all the weapon slot keys, as well as the primary/secondary swap button. And yes, this was using an M16/AK-47.

 

Actually most beta's are usually dont have NDA's with them. Alpha builds do tho.

 

It was set to 3 by default when I played. There must be something wrong with your installation if you're not able to swap to the other weapons. Have you been able to use the killstreak perks?

 

The Scorestreaks, yeah. Although I always die right after getting 40 points for the first one, the Mortar/UAV.

 

Good game. But same old stuff really. I can see people getting this game for the pc due to the lack of dedicated servers for mw2.

 

I personally didn't find anything unique to this game which would make me buy it. It's a BC2/MW2 re-hash, and there wasn't much substance from what I could tell. No squad play, no communication mechanism, same old weapons that have been everywhere in games, CS type gameplay, etc etc etc. I think i'll just stick to BC2 for now. *Uninstalled*

 

I found the online play to be slow on ps3. Feels like I am playing with an awful connection (I'm not).

You dont need a key - its an open beta. As far as i know, just pre-load and on the 4th when they open it up, have fun.

Open Beta eh? I might as well give it a go then. Save me $50 if it really isn't very noteworthy. Although I do enjoy the single player campaigns of these types of games as long as they're original and innovative, but if it's just ho-hum probably won't even touch it.

 

Its actually $60, but yea I'm going to give the beta another try since I was not feeling it when it first came out. Hopefully there are some major improvements.

If you guys didn't know already they have the beta client out to download. I would recommend doing so in that when it comes the 4th servers might be slow.

how was the first beta? Didn't get a chance to try it out.. i've not very sure about getting it yet as i just got BC2 and haven't finished it.. Also how's the single player story? Lastly , is it worth getting the limited edition now or just get the normal game next year?

 

I'll give this a try again, I tried the beta when it first came out but I wasn't too impressed, it had a console feel to it, but maybe I need another go at it

 

It will be 4th in a hour but steam still shows 14 hours.
I was really expecting it to get unlocked at 12 but

 

Most are unlocked at 9am PST day of release, which would mean 12pm (noon) day of release EST.

 

I preordered. First game I ever preordered.

Oh, preordered on Amazon as well. They got this thing where you can preorder the game, and they will ship it to you so that you get it on the release date. Pretty cool. I still like having the physical copy of the game, rather than a digital download.

 

Some are reporting they have access and the beta is up - if you installed via a standalone and not the steam version. At least that is what they are posting on the EA forums and Steam MOH forum. Not sure of course and I'm not about to re-download this thing. lol

 

It's up for the stand-alone client. Ive been playing it for about 15 minutes now.

Well, granted its the 'beta' and we are at the start of uptime with servers, but I am done for now. Joining a server will get you in-game for about a minute and then it exits and goes back to the main menu stating the EA servers are unavailable.

This is typical these days though. We all want that new multiplayer title to work out of the box on day 1... just have to accept that servers are being hammered I guess.

I have to take another look at the controls and settings - figured it would be quite close to BC2. Some differences.

Hopefully tomorrow night will be better in terms of server support.

 

Game is very good. The sound and graphics are great. Wow. I was thinking I was going to cancel my preorder from amazon if I didn't like the beta but it's very good for few minutes I was able to play.

I get random drops but EA is aware of this and our working on it apparently.

I installed the punkbuster that came in the demo.But still it says I need punkbuster to join the game. What should I do?

 

I pre-ordered from Best Buy but nowhere on the cover does it say its the Limited Edition. Do I still get the Limited Edition with the pre-order goodies?

Do you still get CTDs like in BFBC2?

Aimbot hackers already. 120 kills in specops alone for one kid. No buy from me unless EA can learn to handle their business.

Hit detection is bad (which is on par for Dice)

Another run up to the firing line, shoot, die, do it over again...
