I'm in love with this game! I've been playing it for over 6 months and it's still just as fun as the day I got it. I've finished long campaigns as the Turks, France, and Venice, and I have a game going right now as the Spanish.
Does anyone else on here share my enthusiasm?

yep
and why am i not suprised that you play it either.......
in the middle of a long campaign as venice i have beaten milan, the byzantines and hungry and am now taking on the mongols who have beaten the turks and egypt..........the timurids have just come so now i have some help against them...although i do have a bigger army and a much larger economy......i have only got 30 provinces though.....i need another 15 in 75 turns so its going to be close......
i always stay up too late playing this game -
tried the Stainless Steel mod?
-
^^nope never knew it existed.
-
Hmm... playing the game right now. Picked it up ages ago and replaying it now...
the AI makes me want to cry. One time, it blasted away a good portion of the walls of my city (it had a full stack, i had a token force) then just sat there for the rest of the battle... -
dude... even before M2TW, did you try some of the mods they have out there?
amazing work...
here's some mods for the Rome Total War BI
Ran No Jidai TW (Incomplete)
Three Kingdoms TW
Extended Greek Mods TW (ha ha ha... you can mod files for 1 turn for Spartan Royal Guards = *** Wuppin!)
here you can see the mods... very cool... very VERY cool...
and may i say, cheat/customization is quite easy... i know i know... cheats... yea but it's kinda cool when your legions and legions of spartan royal guards are pushing through the enemy... like hot knife thru buttah... -

im really tempted to get this game, but im not sure the battles look cool but the management side looks like something could bore me really fast

omg what a coincidence that you started this thread. I just reinstalled this game this month after getting a massive urge for historical *** kicking after listening to dan carlins hardcore history podcast ( http://www.dancarlin.com/dchh.xml, for all you history buffs).
Im playing the byzantines now and i only just got my first glimpse of the tumirids on my northern borders, they have like 7 full banner armies!?!@#!@ And they wont accept my alliance proposition
Im slowly dominating the holy roman empire to the west and letting the turks constantly siege Nicea (they fail everytime, must be something to do with trotting their 300 cavalry units toward my spearmen). Its funny because they started attacking Nicea around about the same time they actually successfully did take it over in real life :O -

Never played this, but I do remember Rome: Total War as being one of the most addictive games ever.
-
Yea... the AI is not particularly smart. -
Have it minimized on my Taskbar right now. Been playing the same campaign as France for months just for fun and have 75 territories and have been dueling the Timurids for a couple weeks now. It would be easy to just take Jerusalem and win, but having the Timurids have even a small part of the power that I have is unacceptable, so they must fall first.
Back when the game was still in doubt I was fighting the Papal States and three-fourths of the other Catholic nations all at once - that was fun. The Pope told me to quit attacking Milan right before I was going to take a huge city and I told him to be quiet, thinking that once my soon-to-be-excommunicated king died and I had another everything would be jolly good again. Boy, was I wrong. Took a couple centuries to get unexcumminicated - until I finally had a monopoly on the College of Cardinals from destroying nigh all of Christendom.

I used to like this game until I tried Europa Universalis III. It is about to be released as a bundle with the main game and both expansion for a super cheap price. It destroys MTW 2 in every aspect besides graphics and battles. There are no battles, but I never enjoyed playing those at all. I was strictly into the map mode of play. I would give it a try if you just like that map mode.
And for those of you who think MTW 2 is historical. I am sorry but I have got news for you... -
But thanks for the tip. I'll *ahem* check it out later -
for some reason, i like the spartans... could it be the 300 hype that got me to buy the movie?...
currently working on 3 Kingdoms... heard it was buggy... but so far... ok... -
I do keep hearing good things about Europa Universalis, though, so I'll download the demo and try it out at some point. -
Unfortunately the demo is pretty crappy. It is completely unchanged from when they released it before EUIII was released. There has been so much work done to it. But if you feel it is interesting even slightly, trust me the retail version with both expansions is way beyond that demo.

I'm a huge Total War Junkie. Medieval II so far has been my favorite. I'm not-so-much looking forward to Empire TW, though. What are your thoughts on it?
What I'm dying for is a Rome 2 TW ;D -
-
I was a Medieval and Rome TW addict, I've never played Medieval 2 though.
-
Thats a good point Apollo.
I've been playing the last Darth Mod for M2:TW most recently, and I've definitely noticed that it makes the game a LOT hard.
Althought, I do think it overpowers calvary too much.
What other mods have you guys played? -
Wow is that guy still around? I remember him from the his mods to RTW.
