If the requirement for optimum settings is a 690 or above, then the 7970m/680m won't come anywhere near max settings, even without aa and dof. This game is going to be extremely demanding.

Optimum system requirements: Metro 2033
- Core i7 CPU
- Nvidia DirectX 11 graphics card (Geforce GTX 480 and Geforce GTX 470)
- As much RAM as possible (8 GiB+)
- Fast HDD or SSD
Optimal system requirements: Metro Last Light
Windows: Vista, 7 or 8
CPU: 3.4 GHz Multi-Core, e.g. Intel Core i7
RAM: 8 GB
Direct X: 11
Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 680 SLI / Nvidia GTX 690 / Nvidia Titan
-
Nah, I am sure this is for crazy high resolution like surround.. Impossible to require 680 SLI for 1080p unless they wanna end business..
-
For those interested, check out a short gameplay video for Metro Last Light on pcgameshardware.de
They run the game with 3 x Titans in SLI at 2560x1600, Advanced PhysX ON, Very High Quality, 2 x SSAA.
I hope the final game has more graphics options, because in the video there were only the following options:
Under VIDEO you have: Resolution, DirectX Level (9/10/11), Quality (Low to Very High), Tesselation (ON/OFF), Motion Blur (Low to High), AF (1x - 16x) and SSAA (2x,4x)
Under GAME OPTIONS you have: Advanced PhysX ON/OFF
And thats it!!! No advanced options for tweaking I'm afraid.
For non-Titan/690 users - will probably have to stick with 1920x1080 and High/Very High Quality with probably no SSAA (which will just kill performance if enabled).
Here is the link to the video:

It was the same with Metro 2033, its the settings (High, V.High) that enable by it default.
-
Yeah basically the same, but No Advanced DOF option and only SSAA antialiasing.

Metro Last Light:
Recommended System Requirements
Windows: Vista, 7 or 8
CPU: 2.6 GHz Quad Core, e.g. Intel Core i5
RAM: 4 GB
Direct X: 11
Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 580 / 660 Ti or higher
Metro 2033:
Recommended system requirements
- Quad-Core or 3.0+ GHz Dual-Core CPU
- DirectX 10 graphics card (Geforce GTX 260)
- 2 GiB RAM -
I am sure we will all run High \ Very High with FXAA enabled (nothing more than that for sure) around +30fps, definitely if somebody wants 60fps, then has to tune some stuff down. I have a feeling that game will favor AMD cards initially, but Nvidia will comeup with a nice driver which will make it ok (as always they do, god I miss Nvidia
)

It supports physx so i assume it will favour nvidia more tbh.
-
well, so did Metro 2033..

Nvidia was superior to amd in metro until a driver update. Then amd simply dominated.
I am looking forward to this game. I really enjoyed metro 2033, while it was a bit rough around the edges, the atmosphere was quite good, as well as the story. The survival mechanics, finding low amount of healing and bullets was awesome. -
I think you didn't get my point there..

nVidia is backing the new one Metro Last Light as evidenced by it being bundled with new GTX 660 and up.

I hope it goes on sale fast.

Aside from nvidia coupons, I heard bittorrent is also giving away metroLL for current users and for ones who own the program

Still, I'd rather wait a year or so, then use BT services... -
wait a year for Last Light?!!! Hell no!!! But I guess I will wait until June/July as I have too many games backlogged and the end of May looks grim

I tried ordering my Titan Superclocked through Newegg to get Last Light for free with the promotion, but they ran out of stock right as I was entering my credit card info lol. Had to order it from Newegg's Ebay listing instead, and it didn't come with the Last Light coupon

Wow, awesome find dude.

no no, titan SC will not run metroLL
you need a gold plated diamond glittered quad SLI uber1337 edition titan -
I really want the Ranger edition but i also want to wait for the game price to drop. Should i buy now or could Ranger mode become available later as DLC?
-
well, there is 10% discount on Steam right now, I guess I will buy it knowing it will be a good game (guaranteed).. I don't care about preorder bonuses though, 10% discount will disappear as soon as the game releases.
-
the pre-order bonus is honestly not worth it. More over, you can easily find the game for cheaper than what Steam currently offers.
-
damn it, I am counting the hours!

Initial impressions:
1. Graphics are out of the planet.
2. Solid intro. -
I agree the graphics are insanely beautiful. The game immerses you, like the first game. I love looking for bullets, and the silent take downs are fun.
@Maxheap are you getting any random slow downs or flickering on the screen? It might be from my OC on the 7970m. I am running 1450/950, but its not like artifacting, its more like a graphical glitch related to a driver issue. I am running 13.5 WHQL.
Also what settings/FPS are you getting?
I'm running 1080p
Very High
2x AA
16x AF
Normal Tess
Normal Blur
Getting 40/50avg with dips into the 20s! It just feels randomly slow motion at points for no apparent reason? And then 2 seconds later is perfectly smooth. GPU utilization around 85-90% though?
Edit:
Trip over to the Steam forums confirms my graphical issues. Seems to be related to AMD drivers. The slow downs are also reported with AMD. Guess a graphics driver will fix it in time. For now the game is playable and still very much enjoyable so whatever. -
Flickering and slow downs are all AMD driver issues, they gotta release drivers for this game. I am running stock, on much lower settings with similar fps, however I am on 13.2 WHQL right now, I will up that to 13.5 right now
Game looks like nothing before, I think it is better (no kidding) than Crysis 3.. Also the missions are soooo beautiful!! I am restarting with ranger difficulty asap -
A fantastic game so far.
Will post up thoughts soon after working out best settings for smooth fps.
Game has been benchmarked.

Can someone translate german?
Thnx
I am using dx9. Works great like metro 2033 -
hope AMD will release new drivers soon cuz in some areas fps dips from 50 to 20 without reason...also have some flickering too..

I've cornered an excellent example of the FPS killing flicker I had in level 1 starting at the 09:21 minute mark, have barely seen any in the next 2 levels. If anyone wants to use it to make their case to AMD/4AGames, please feel free. I also see 10-15% gpu underutilization.

4a just release new patch in steam which solves all issues for amd users like perfomance, flickering ,etc.
New update: AMD fixes and FOV :: Metro: Last Light General Discussions -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
EDIT: Another small update loaded and flicker is gone, gpu usage pretty much consistent >95%. However, smoke/vapor are still prone to a stutter effect. Chicken or egg can be argued here, but 4A came out with a 2of3 fix pretty quick imo. -
Anyone noticed graphics are poor, well compared to 2033? I have new update but the graphics look blurred and do not compare to original metro. Even the snow flakes or particles which floatin mid-air are blurred.
Weird...? -

This is a disappointing release.
They implemented FXAA into the engine and you cannot disable it. The fact they went with FXAA which is known to blur textures is really really disappointing.
With the original it was NOT implemented and AMD users could use SMAA injector and tweak AA to their likening with only one AA filter operating. Now it seems more taxing with two forms of AA working together.
I am starting to wonder what are these game developers doing? I understand that this is/was a Nvidia release game but permanent FXAA into the engine???......that is truly pathetic in 2013. Let the gamer choose what they want.
This game on default settings is at least 2-3 notches below original Metro 2033 in graphics department.
Crysis 3 still remains the benchmark 4 now.
More info here: http://www.dsogaming.com/news/metro...-than-dx9-tessellation-physx-modes-explained/
EDIT 1: I am going to add this after playing a good 5/6 hrs of it about halfway into it.
I have now used an external injector to get the game looking as good as Metro 2033 and if not better. The level with the aircraft and this injector is amazingly good now graphically speaking. However, remove the injector and the game is very poor looking with default settings. It's a shame that I have to use an injector to improve it. The original metro 2033 did not require the injector and looks great as is default(jn-game settings). However, last light requires external tweaking to get it to look like the original if not better. I have also had to go AF 4X instead of 16x as the hit of FXAA in the engine(cannot disable) along with the injector pulls the fps average down to around 25fps but interestingly it still is smooth and playable. On AF 16x it feels and plays kinda stuttery.
I might try it now with DX9 and tessellation off and see how it all goes.
Interesting find though nevertheless.
EDIT: 2
Noticed with Dx9 the fps is lower but the faces, shadows, darkness and colors are more realistic. With Dx11 you get a better fps and possibly more detail but somehow the lighting and colors is poor, evidenced on the faces of other characters. I am sticking with Dx9 and the injector 4 now. Also, as I cannot replay the 1st mission(will lose my current autosave) I would like to try that 1st level again and will do so later. The missions after the 2nd or 3rd level seem to be more like metro 2033 and graphically akin to this. However, the 1st level and possibly the 2nd were bad looking and blurry(from memory see my above post) not sure why, though. Will wait till I finish the game and replay the 1st few levels to see if my initial impressions are/were correct, with the injector as well and will make a full comparison.
But certainly after you pass the 1st few levels the game is glorious and opens up with amazing graphics especially with the injector. I would haste to say it even passes Metro 2033 from this point forward and is certainly one of the best looking games graphically speaking. As to whether it surpasses Crysis 3 that's a tough call. Both are equally great looking **(only when you pass the first few levels on metro last light).
Edit:3 prefer dx11 provides more detail and runs better.
Edit: 4 Yup finished the game and replayed 1st level. Very disappointing level seems to be rushed as graphics are sub-par compared to the rest of the levels. Once you past the 1st level happy to say the game is great all the way to the end. Not sure why they stuffed the 1st level. Anyway a good game but nothing like the 1st game(Metro 2033) and hence I rate this one worst than the first.
