Same here. Wasn´t too long ago I actually finished it so I don´t think I´ll do a second playthrough before this one. Knowing me I don´t think I´ll finish it in time anyway..

I hope they can find a way to make coop work. Imagine slashing through a horde with a friend at your side, and assassinations could get more difficult so you´d need some strategy to take them out. Say one battle the captain while the other has to hold back reinforcements. That´d be cool :D

SoM was boring and repetitive as hell in the Ubisoft open-world kind of way (*cough* liberating towers and endless samey collectibles). Basically a brainless Orc hack-and-slash ( Batman Arkham style button spam combat) wrapped around the innovative Nemesis System that gets way too easy as Talion grows stronger.

Also WTF was up with that plot. More of a Middle-earth fan-fic than LoTR/Hobbit/Silmarillion canon (Tolkien rolling over in his grave LMAO) and the pacing was off. Story just ends abruptly. After fighting The Tower you was expecting some good boss battles with the last two Black Captains but the game just throws them at you in quick succession along with Sauron and they are all QTE's??? Such a half-assed ending.

Well, it´d be a boring world if we all liked the same things :D

I liked the atmosphere and the gameplay. I could decide what I wanted to do for the day, be it storyline, sidequests or just assault a stronghold. Which was one of my favourite things btw. Just run into a stronghold and trip the alarm, let them come at you in masses and feel like a god of war in the middle.

I didnt try to only button-mash so don´t know about that, except when I was intentionally going for a flurry kill. I found the flow of counterattacks, brandings, executions etc to be quite satisfying.

I do agree about the ending though. Abit anticlimactic.

Ditto. I initially liked the game, but soon it fell into a boring routine and I bailed on the game.

That's what worried me enough to not play SoM, I keep going back and forth between wanting to play because friends with very similar taste in games to my own love the hell out of it, and not wanting to play because I'm afraid I'd compare it to the books too much and be disappointed.

dont read to much into it mate, its a fun game, just see it as been set in the middle-earth world, leave it at that, as a fun hack"n"slash game, that makes you feel very over-powered as you progress.

@Mr Najsman gameplay looks sick, really looking forward to seeing more about this game as the months progress.

That makes me feel a little better, I might just pick them up. Hopefully my inner Tolkien nerd does not rebel partway through. :)

i enjoyed it, as others have said, it does get a little "same old same old" as you progress through, but you can always hinder yourself by limiting your skill selection to make it harder as you progress, for me it was a tonne of fun being in middle-earth fighting against all the hordes from this setting, its worth a look especially if you can pick it up cheap........i think its $20 on steam

I wouldn't pay regular price for SoM now. The GOTY Edition has gone as low as $5 numerous times this year.

really hope this game won't end up as the first. Too repetitive, you're basically doing the same thing over and over again. While I enjoy the combat, I can't bring myself to finish SoM.

Having just finished SoM tonight, and being a big Tolkien nerd myself (having read Hobbit/LotR/Silmarillion, most of the Unfinished Tales, and some HoME), I'd recommend you give the game a try. Just temper any expectations about the story--it's ultimately Tolkien fanfiction, and not even spectacular fanfiction. But the gameplay is fun (if a bit repetitive--and I do recommend not fully upgrading your abilities and weapons before finishing the main story, as it'll get too easy too quickly). And the story isn't bad by any means, and some things near the end surprised me (in a good way), it's just nowhere near Tolkien level storytelling (and takes some license with some of Tolkien's ideas). It's mostly just underwhelming and short, but thankfully it sounds like the designers might be fixing in the sequel. The collectibles in the game do flesh things out a bit more, and my inner Tolkien nerd was delighted with some of the detail they threw in there (about things like the Blue Wizards, etc.) So I'd give it ago--maybe wait for a Steam sale in you're still uncertain.

I think I can live with that. Will probably wait until both are on sale and pick them up at the same time.
