PC gamer's review of Aliens: Isolation listed their video card as a "AMD Radeon 7800". They are also believing that gaming on battery is something that gaming laptop owners often do, and were super excited that it could be done with maxwell's new chips. I think most of the people who write for the site should probably be fired or have a SERIOUS editor who knows what they're doing fine-tooth-comb their articles before publishing.

You can nitpick any site if you wanted to. Hardware might not be PC Gamer's (or that reviewer's) forte, but I don't go there for that stuff.

    BTW, BF3 is a 32-bit not 64-bit game. See what I did there? ;)

Could have sworn there was a x64 launcher for it, like with BF4, where you can launch a x86 version of BF4 if you want.

I could go super far back though, Crysis Warhead had a x64 version.

    Also, fixed that post =D

Nope, no x64 exe for BF3. That was my point about nitpicking. :D

Well I'm a nitpicker. As far as I'm concerned, if they have a job doing that, they should know at least basics. Because they have a lot of readers and they sometimes interject their own opinions into the minds of a large number of users who don't know any better, and spread the whole misinformation deal. YOU know better. I know better. Random user #55 doesn't know better, but this guy works here, so he must know what he's talking about.

To be fair, I nitpick the same way when Totalbiscuit makes assumptions about how well or not well games sold etc and I do watch his videos... but I still nitpick =D.

Yeah - I listen to TotalBiscuit and Kotaku has solid reviews on most games, rather; they articulate their position very well.

Fair enough, suit yourself. I just can't handle people trying to shove SJ crap down my throat. Leave my damn video games alone.

To be honest, I have a serious problem with Totalbiscuit. He doesn't have enough of himself to go around. I mean, I could do what he does, probably. As could a few other people; look at a game, talk about the specs and the visuals and whatnot, but we don't have his fame, the strength of his voice. We need a few more Totalbiscuits is basically it.

Ironically, Boogie2988 is a pretty similar guy, but his quest for peace and friendliness has often left him uh... in a state where he would flat out refuse to bash on a game that needs bashing. He'll give you ups and downs of a game that has equal parts, or talk about how much he loves this other game etc, but he won't tear down something that needs tearing down, and he doesn't really talk about how it runs for PC gamers. But he's a pretty positive voice for gaming in general.

Yeah - a lot of old school WoW commentators have moved to other PC games, which is great; I quit WoW a long time ago. Not enough of them review stuff though, its too bad Yogscast doesn't review stuff. Those guys are pretty funny.

Anyway - I like this game. Despite the absurd requirements for the textures, it's refreshing to play it coming off of Dead Rising 3.

    7970m(1090/1600/1.1v/tdp=100%/drivers 14.4[or 6]) with i73720qm gets:
    average 70.08
    max 368.97
    min 24.04

    set: 1080p, very high

Is it just me, or do AMD cards seem to be performing particularly well in this Nvidia-sponsored title? :err:

Oh right, it's not using GameWorks. That explains a whole lot. :D

    Core park On:
    average 70.08
    max 368.97
    min 24.04

    Core park Off:
    average 69.89
    max 644.78
    min 20.20

    average 69
    max 479
    min 33

So there is almost no difference in average fps with "core parking" on or off.

Can someone explain how the downsampling works in this game?

The only AA option is downsampling, so if you're playing at 1080p and you want to try "Ultra" settings with the texture pack, in order to activate downsampling do you need to also set the resolution to 150% or 200% within the in-game settings?

Otherwise, if you stay at 1080p resolution there is no downsampling AA, right? So to try maximum settings at 1080p you must actually render at 4k - or am I misunderstanding this setting? How about if your display is 4k, you have to render at 8k?

Yeah setting resolution above 100% enables SSAA. You don't need it for Ultra settings though, it's a separate "extra" option. You can also force all manner of post AA externally. SMAA would be good so as to not blur those Ultra textures.

no need for it but seems nvidia has a lot of space for improving in the upcoming drivers.Even ryse i read that it runs better on ati cards and nvidia are working on a patch to improve performance in ryse.I read it on a german site.
