    Hey all,

Yes, I expect to hear how much of a nerd/ have no life but what the hay. I will be at the local gamestop at midnight to pick up my collectors edition.

Friend wanted to pick up a different game but couldn't get a ride, so figured kill 2 birds with one stone. Got the pre-order in the system, he is gonna pick up the new Call of Duty while were there so should be fun.

Anyone else going? Don't be afraid to speak up (please don't let me be the only one!).

Midnight release should be a very interesting event . I wonder if US locations are going to have same specials as those in Europe .

Wow has a huuuuuuuuge community so why not be there at midnight . Its a game a lot of people love and have fun playing .

Also playing WoW doesnt automatically make you a nerd . A lot of people of different backgrounds play games and it doesnt mean all of them are nerds . Thus its not the game that makes you a nerd its the lifestyle you live .

For reference ( taken from Wikipedia ) : Nerd - is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests that are age inappropriate rather than engaging in more social or popular activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers, or will tend to associate with like-minded people.

Is true story...was one of the weirdest things about moving here to North America from Oz, they open all the games...struck me as just plain odd

I lol'd at the 7-11 story, that's just awesome. I remember back when Harry Potter came out my brother went into a K-Mart 2 days before release date and picked up a copy...good times.

Oh and with regards to original post if I hadn't clawed my life back and quit WoW I'd be there with you buddy ;)

Silly question, why open all the games? What possible reason could they have for that?

They don't. It's just that they usually only have 1 copy of each game and they open it to put an empty display box on the shelf. However, even if they have a few copies, they may display it just to take up more space. There are definitely unopened games and they won't sell WotLK opened, at least near launch.

idk i work at a gamestop and we do open the last copy of console games but have no open PC games...... i know were doin a midnight thing for the game, in fact we only took preorders for like one day cause they all were taken up in that day, but we didnt have too many also so idk, like the cap for preorders was pretty small compared to other games. And yea a friend of mine got gears of war 2 from a 7-11 the day before it came out too lol, but yea we only open the console games so we have a copy to display, but all the pc games are just put out on display as they are, unopened.

Gratz Man! I just got home with my Collector's Edition!!@!

Man for my area, it was packed! They had us divide into 2 lines, one for cash/already paid and one for credit card.

All was well until it came time for me to purchase, the credit card machine refused all transactions, for everyone! So here I am staring at my copy being told I might have to wait until 10am, 9 hours from now. Thirty Minute drive for this. Give him props, first he gave out these "extra scratch offs" for WOW prizes and such. So he called up the Visa and they showed him another way to do it :)

As I speak I am carefully opening it, very cool looking box so trying to be careful.

Well enough of this, to WOW I go!

I think I'm actually going to wait a while before I get WoTLK, I'm not even ready to play it yet (Unless there's a real need for it if you have a lvl 23 character lol) it's still cool to be a part of the celebration though.

    This made me lol:

Servers aren't too packed are they? I get home an hour early from work today so if there's no issues I want to jump straight on to continue levelling :)

In the south central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland area the Gamestops around here always open up their PC games to put them on the shelf. Sometimes they do have them back in a glass case sealed brand new, but upon purchasing it they always slice the seal open upon sale. :( This is extremely annoying because I like things new and sometimes I buy games as gifts. Having a game that's cut open by those idiots pisses me off. They say it's to remove the CD's to prevent copying, but nearly every single time they forget to take the serial key out of the box. I commonly see people crouched down taking cell phone photos of the serial keys of PC games. I do all my PC game shopping at Walmart since the aisle is huge, things are orderly, and the games are sealed brand new. I also don't get nagged to death with "bonus offers" and pre-order suggestions.

For 7-11, I'll probably stop in there a couple of times later this month to see if they get GTA IV out early. 7-11 has been breaking those annoying "street dates" which is great. :) I'm not a WoW player though. There's nothing wrong with it. I just don't have the time for something like that and I don't like feeling overwhelmed.

I can see it now... 4270349827340923742093147023947120394721390742134 Elf death knights with names like deadguy, deadelron, deddrizzt, blackbart, etc. all asking why their "hero class" is only 400% better than a normal class when it should be 800% better...

I honestly feel sorry for whatever non-deathknight players remain...

As for midnight madness... the title is aptly named.
I like gaming, but never understood why tomorrow after work wasn't acceptable.

Mmm...I tend to agree but then again I've been to see midnight movie sessions...so whatever floats people's boats. Being the first to see something is nifty thing to say.

lol I've already seen a number of Death Knight players at lvl 60-70, that's a sh*t load of grinding.

I'm still pretty happy staying as a Warlock. I'm only on a PvE server anyway so it doesn't matter for now. I'll look into starting a Death Knight much later, but since Blood Elf is the only race I like playing as, I'll give it a while anyway because I can't face doing all those Blood Elf starter location quests yet again!

I was gonna go to the midnight release, but I knocked out toooo early...lol..

but I picked my reserved copy up after school yesterday, installed it (rather quick installation, too) and was off into Northrend! I dunno if I wanna continue my lock or play the DK. Started a DK yesterday and it was really fun! So now I'm torn...

Darnit I dont' have time to pick up this game for another 3.5 weeks! Anyway I've read on another post here that someone running an 8600m gt had all high settings was only getting 5fps in northrend. Can anyone here possibly post their experiences thus far along with their gpu/cpu/settings? I know this topic has been beaten to death in a lot of places but I'm really curious now since most people have just experienced the new shadows but not necessarily the new northend graphics. Mainly looking for performance on a 9600m/9650m gt with high settings (asus n80).

    Thanks!

I'm sort of in the same boat but my WL is only in the 20's, so even before I decide I want to go ahead with the DK (if I even get on with the class) I still have to level to 55 first. Kinda hard to get the enthusiasm... Either way though it wouldn't be a waste. Shouldn't have looked into how awesome DK's look so soon :p

Dont be too worried , unless you 100% want to run wow with maxed out settings . My friend is playing it with P4 3.0Ghz , 1.5 Gb ram , ATI x300 256Mb @1280-1024 x2 sampling and he is getting around 20s-40s fps while having his settings set to mid and low . He hasnt done any raids yet , with 25 ppl fps his fps will probably drop even more .

Shadows settings have the biggest impact on performance so far . When i was in beta i couldnt run it in all high settings ( lap in my sig ) . I do not accept anything but 35+ fps . I ran it at WSXGA ( x2 sampling , triple buffering , vsync ) viewing distance on max , environmental detail on max , spell detail on max , texture resolution on max , ground clutter and radius on low , texture filtering on low , weather details on low , shadows LOW! ( while they make the game look a lot more realistic at the same time they kill you fps ) .

The game still looks nice and you run around with 40-60 fps . So if you want to get max eyecandy and the most fps just play with the settings .

mmmpollo: with my laptop's specs below and with settings of mid-low, I run about 20-30 FPS so far in Northrend. I say "so far" because I'm still at one of the first starting areas, Borean Tundra. But yeah, it'll only drop to about 15 fps in heavily populated areas, such as Valiance Keep.

But yeah, since I play on basically low settings, I can't experience the eye candy graphics everyone is talking about. But I bought the game for my brother as a birthday gift and his desktop can run WoW at 60+ fps - can't wait to see how the game looks on his computer.

My FPS was at 60 default. So I tried taking off vertical sync and it jumped to 169. I made my character look upwards and it jumped to 275 lol

Do I need any more than 60 when I get to any majorly crowded areas?

Is it possible to max out WoW, even on a desktop? My friend has a Radeon 4870 and a Q6600 OCed to 3.2 GHz, and he gets 15 FPS when there are a lot of people in the map. Considering that, I doubt a laptop could max out WoW.

Playing the game solo or in a full group, on a system like that he should be able to max the game out just fine (provided he has 2+ GB of RAM). WoW is a game where RAM makes a HUGE difference in performance.

Otherwise, just like most games, pushing it over 4x Anti-Aliasing is a waste of resources and makes almost no difference visually. So if you want to max it out to 16x Multi-Sampling, you are kind of asking for a massive performance hit.

EDIT: For reference, I run WoW with all settings maximum (except shadows at half and AA at 2x) at 1440x900 resolution and sit comfortably at 25FPS while outside in Shattrath. Keep in mind I am running on a Macbook Pro with a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and an 8600m GT GDDR3 (256MB).
