Minecraft is all about building with blocks, surviving, killing monsters, and having fun.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out this wicked trailer.

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FaMTedT6P0I?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FaMTedT6P0I?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='560' height="340"></embed></object>

You can buy the game here:

    Minecraft

A little bit about the game:
**Note: There are 3 versions of the game. Free, Singleplayer, and Multiplayer**

    - The free version is just a java based browser game. No real goal, you have an unlimited amount of blocks, and you can build anything you want. Downside is you can't save.

    - Alpha: The current version right now. There are updates every week (Friday), and it's being updated a ton. It's the Singleplayer "survival" mode. Basically you start off on a world that is 3x larger than our World (Ya, you read that right), and it's randomly generated. The goal is to survive. You start with nothing and have to find your materials as you go. At night time (day and night last 10 minutes) monsters come out and can/will kill you (but you can play on Peaceful, which no monsters spawn. I find that the most fun). You can do anything you want from exploring to building, to collecting mass amounts of resources.

    - Multiplayer: Basically like the free version, but with other people on the servers, and it saves.

i played it and its fun for like 8 hours and than when u built ur huge castle and fixed electricity so your bridge door will open and close from a button u start to think. Why did i do this, am all alone in this world who did i build it for? Why do i have 23 bedrooms ? Who will ever see my creation except me?

Than u start getting depressed and next thing u know ur talking to a shrink.

So lay off this game kids

Maybe il make a video of my crib in minecraft :D

Anyone playing this? I got it yesterday night and ended up playing until 2 in the morning, it's strangely addictive, I've got a door and a big cave going on with some torches, a chest, a furnace, and a workbench. Adding some ladders now so I can mine out the cave higher/lower and hopefully find some iron ore. But yeah... weird "game", when I saw the screenshots I didn't think I would get into it but now I wanna play that more than dead rising haha.

I don't know if anyone here watches SeaNanners on Youtube, but when he started to play it, the servers couldn't handle the load from all the people trying to buy it.

Any who, it's a great game and reminds me of playing with LEGOS when I was younger.

    Ya, I agree.

It may be really simple to play, but it's the most fun I have had in a long time. I personally play on peacefull (meaning monsters don't spawn), and I build things. So far I have a treehouse, a damn, a giant Mario statue, and a giant Mario Mushroom statue.

Maybe this trailer will change some minds. :D

    jones, gameplay looks awesome.

and the blocky style kind of brings on nostalgia.
remembering a time when graphics was not everything.

i laughed hard when i saw the square sun, awesome.

might give this a shot later, right now it seems it won't let me cause its servers are loaded etc... not sure.

Ya. The servers are really overloaded right now because of the MASS amounts of people buying the game still. Notch (the sole creator) has made almost 2 Million dollars so far.

Just remember that there are 3 versions of the game.

If you guys have any more questions, feel free to ask.

What mode are you playing Jones? I'm playing single player in alpha, loving it, just dug to some bedrock and mined like 2 stacks of red dust [?] ore and forged my iron breastplate and leggings. I'm gonna start making some tracks/minecarts next

I only play the Singleplayer. I don't find that multiplayer all that fun because it's easy to build big stuff. I like the challenge of trying to build big stuff in singleplayer by having to collect the resources yourself, and building something without being able to fly.

Here is a video I made that shows just what you can find at the bottom of the world behind some dirt:

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QFYSfl_wWWA?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QFYSfl_wWWA?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='425' height="344"></embed></object>

Yeah I agree, and you can't die in multiplayer so you can play all careless. I like the danger and thrills of exploring caverns and getting the willies when I'm really high up and having to tip-toe to not fall to my death. I found some slime monsters in my bedrock cavern that i've been mining red ore out of, I had to seal it :( at first I'm like what are these green blobs? *shoots an arrow at it and watches it spawn into 2 smaller blobs* Oh jeez... cause I covered the area with torches to make sure nothing spawns but didn't realize slimes spawn in light or dark areas if you're deep enough.

awesome game, been having fun with this one casually playing in my free time. I'm playing the single player with monster spawns enabled. It's fun b/c they've made me rethink my building material and location etc. It's great. and I've gotten spooked a few times on those fools coming out of nowhere and blowing up my sod house! lol

This does look very interesting. What would make it more interesting is if they added just a sandbox mode to make your own games, so you could add ai monsters, moving platforms, etc. I really like the enormous scope of this game, and how you are basically unlimited on the size of things you build.

Don't you need to spend like hours and hours and hours just to build a small block? I didn't quite understand the gist of it I guess.

I thought the idea was pretty cool at first...but then i realized that it's much more satisfying to create real things that you can show off to your friends....than to create mine craft things that can be grief-ed by your friends, haha.

    No...where did you hear that?

Generally, most of the building resources can be used and placed as soon as you mine them. You mine one block of stone, and you can place one block of cobblestone wherever you like. You take one block of wood from a tree, and you can either place it anywhere, or split it into 4 blocks of planks and place those.

This game is too addictive. Being OP makes things boring and fun at times.
Good points: Can build stuff faster and quicker, especially with WorldEdit mod

Really only worth playing on multiplayer. Otherwise you build a huge castle and it's like "well... now what"

Although this game looks like something I can put on my netbook and play on occasion.

Guys, judging by the crappy graphics can this run on a GMA 950 perfectly fine? My friend has an uber crappy laptop and is bored to death sometimes.

Which is funny cause the graphics are like 3D-ized 16-bit from yonder past. No one expects you need decent hardware to run it. However the Intel Integrated Chipsets from a few years back will lag a little on it believe it or not.

Is it due to the GPU or the CPU? Plus having a deep render distance can be taxing on a GPU unless there are tricks involved to not render everything not seen. I'm going to try it on my Dell Mini 10. This is the perfect netbook type game too. Hopefully the author realizes this and optimizes so it can run well on a netbook.
