Let's make this a place for discussing Minecraft, the world's most addictive sandbox game! Frankly, I'm surprised that we don't yet have a thread for this aptly-named game, considering that it's one of the most popular indie/sandbox games available.

    This Is Minecraft - Minecraft
Minecraft Wiki - Minecraft Wiki - Minecraft Wiki
NBR Minecraft Server - http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...hitelist-48-slots-server-nbr-community-d.html - Big thanks to DEagleson!

For those of you who already play, I've got just one question: How do YOU Minecraft? :p

Minecraft is fun, but the satisfaction per hour is very low. I mean, you could spend an hour playing, and only have a fruitless strip mine + cobblestone hutch to show for it.

I've had it for about a year...it definitely requires an investment of time if you want to accomplish anything, but it's pretty rewarding to step back when you're done and look at something grand you've created.

Until Creepers blow holes in it, anyway :p

I never tried this game, I just dont think it appeals to me. You just break blocks and build with blocks pretty much right?

Its like virtual legos except no nifty trademark pieces.

However I am interested in perhaps hosting a server, I run our Mumble server 24/7 and it doesnt even put a dent in my bandwidth or computer resources.

If Mincraft is not too demanding and it can be hosted from my computer I may just do this for you guys if your interested.

    Q6600 @ 3.6ghz
    4GB RAM

Not bad but by next week it will be

    2600K @ ~4.8ghz
    16GB RAM

    Doing a little upgrade

Internet is a 25mb/s down 5mb/s up fiber optic connection.

That was the AFK kick plugin, its been taken care off. :D

Im renting a VPS server that uses SSDs for the MC map, so hopefully it should load a "little" quicker, damn java killing the performance.

Connect to my server and try it out:
    174.37.218.71:25592
(By default you cannot build, this is my alternative to whitelist. PM me user ID and il grant you build permission.)

Minecraft just love to hog up all the available memory and bandwidth. D:
    Also it is single threaded.
But if you are willing to host it, i could get away with paying for my server.

But you should read some Wikis about hosting Minecraft SMP servers and i also recommend that you read on Bukkit / Craftbukkit.
Its like Sourcemods for CSS servers. (Gungame anyone ^^)

It's a pretty fun game. It is mostly building and mining, but there's a survival element as well, and generally it's a lot more fun than it sounds, especially when you have a group working together on a collaborative project.

And if you host a server, then DEagleson can stop paying monthly for his :p

I'd like to check out your server! My IGN is Jerggg. Whitelist and PM me ip / rules details please.

    @Thisisalamp,

Just connect to 174.37.218.71:25592 and look around first if you want. :D

By default new players cannot build until i add them to the accepted list.
Sorta like a whitelist, but easier to just check out the server.

If you choose to stay, PM or post your ingame name, and il add you to the list.
My server is F2P, but if you wanna chip in on the server cost sometime in the future i wont turn down the offer.

My only rule is this: Dot be a d***!
That means no griefing, rudeness and / or behavior that would hurt another player.

    @ jerg
    Adding you now. :D
Do note that since im playing in GMT+1 (Europe), im not online until later today.

Yes, if you decide to go all mountainmurderer and mine the s**t out of a area, it stays that way until the server get a new map, or if we are so unlucky to see the map bug out and cause chunk errors (A chunk gets overwritten).

So if you want to build a small hut by the sea, or a underground lair, it wont disappear when you log off.
I made a small hut near spawn lake, but feel free to either make a small town, criminal hideout or whatever.
I will enable monsters and PvM (Kill monsters for cash) later on.

Played around with it a bit today, probably more fun online than single player.

I can see it being a good time sink for when I have nothing to do and cant dedicate to playing SC2 or something.

Just not willing to pay $15 for it though when I wont play it too often I do not think.

    How'd you get stuck?

To kill yourself you can drown in water / drop sand or gravel onto your own head / fall damage / find monsters nearby to do the deed.

If you are stuck on the online server, just enter "/spawn" (minus the quotes) in chat and it will teleport you to spawn-point.

I had a fantastic idea of making my house floor clear glass, with water beneath it. But I misclicked the left mouse button and smashed a glass and I fell through...and couldn't get out, surrounded by 3x3 blocks and two blocks high hahaha. DEagleson teleported me then.

Single player is /kill i believe. No such command in SMP....but i've found you should always carry 2 blocks of sand to kill yourself if you need to (place them above your own head).

Minecraft is so much better on MP, NBR crew doing crazy stuff.

I saw Thisisalamp, DEagleson and jerg today. This will only get more fun as more people join, guys! Looking at you, Vicious :p
Day and night in Minecraft each last 10 minutes. Monsters spawn at night and anywhere that's dark, i.e. caves, unlit building interiors. IIRC they can't spawn on top of glass or half-blocks, but those are the only exceptions I know of.

As for your house, as long as it's completely enclosed, they won't be able to get in or damage your house, and they can't open doors. But they can step on pressure plates, so be careful if those control your doors from outside.

Updates: I've built my castle in the sky....up above mastershrooms house on a giant bridge. NONE SHALL PASS :p.

Also...i've mined down into a MASSIVE SPRAWLING CAVE SYSTEM.

coords are -30, -30. On the foot of the mountain outside of spawn(next to the dirt staircase into the water that I built).

There is tons of redstone, gold, obsidian, iron, coal, water and lava.....for all to share! Please help me mine this, and lets get some signs labeling the way back out because it is soooo massive i've gotten lost 3 times already, lol.

Make sure to put down your door from the outside of the house. This way monsters won't be able to detect / attack you through the closed door but you can.

Anyway guys I propose that when we get enough players, we should start building together a proper NBR village / castle! Something with giant boundary walls, towers, roads, mining carts, and all that cool stuff where everyone gets to contribute to the overall effort.
