I have a small problem with my 7970m. War in the North only uses about 30-35% of the GPU. I have not seen this with any other games yet. Anyone else having similar issues with this or other games?

I noticed on BF3 during gaming my GPU usage percentage hovers around 40-70 FPS. When I was getting 25 FPS it was on 44% GPU usage according to MSI afterburner. Is it normal for the 7970m to go all the wayo to 45% GPU usage WHILE in the middle of gaming? it seems to be the reason I am also getting as low as 25 FPS on BF3 at times.

the game was set to high settings, laptop plugged in, on high performance mode even when on battery i have it on maximize performance... these current drivers are really keeping the 7970m from beasting through games flawlessly.

Try to download throttle stop 3.0 and check all the three options (two for CPU clocks, one for turbo).
Turn it on, hit save button, turn it off then turn it on again.
    Close the program, reboot.
When you log in windows, again launch throttle stop and check of its turned on, minimize it and leave it running.Try to see if you still have low usage or frame drops.

HOLY SHAIZA!!!!!! my fps stayed at 50-70 FPS after turning on throttle stop! I'm finally getting the performance alienware users were posting up!

Should I be worried about my CPU if my gaming performance is mediocre when I dont have throttlestop on? and should I put the throttlestop setting to performance or gaming?

im using throttlestop 5.0 beta. I was only getting those FPS on ziba tower, on operation 925 im still going as low as 25 fps every minute. It sucks going from 65 fps to 25 fps once in a while, that is unstable and unplayable...

I got Throttlestop 5.00 and I don't know what is going on but my GPU clocks are at 450/150. I am getting 21 fps in Red Faction Guerilla. The GPU usage is almost 100% but at those clocks, frame rates go below 25fps. What gives?

Check set multiplier as well, all the 3 top options.
Also guys you HAVE to use TS 3.00.1, releases from 4 to last beta don't work well for some reason.
I've tested this extensively with pau1ow (actually all the credits to him) before advising this.
TS 3.00.1 can be found around with a bit of googling, should be available from tech inferno.

Nope don't be worried. CPU downclocks fine even with TS opened and gpu does the same as well, also there's no difference in the profiles beside the names, those are just there to have different profiles based on your needs (it was useful and it is if you have an extreme cpu).
Also guys until we have a stable driver release, at least official, set your clocks with MSI afterburner and close it.
Sometimes clocks get stuck in 3d mode if you leave it open.
If you want to keep track of temperatures, TS offers a similar option into settings, althought the temps can be displayed only in task bar.
You can check CPU temps as well. Check CPU box then select ATI box and GPU box, set your desired colors and that's all.
    :)

There's no more a fixed date for drivers, AMD recently stated a change in their way to release drivers.
Basically they said that new drivers will be out when they are ready.
But after the 12.7 leak and after seeing the performance boost they give, probably we will get a new release, either beta or whql, in July.

Throttlestop 3.00.1 says "CPU not supported" so I cannot use that.

Shouldn't your games use the max potential of 7970m instead of needing a walking stick like Throttlestop?

thats what i was thinking, some people get good stable performance without throttlestop... would it mean something is wrong with my cpu or gpu?

You keep saying "goes down for a bit". What is a bit? If you are looking at a lot of trees or water and smoke, it is going to go down.

That comment is not constructive. No GPU is free from problems. I have had driver issues with both nvidia and AMD GPUs, so have many others.

this is a confirmed problem; there is a whole thread about it in the Sager/Clevo forums about GPU utilization. I have experienced stable framerates, for the most part, but i dunno. some framerates are lower than others than it should be.

So what you are saying is, once AMD release offical and reliable drivers for 7970m there won't be no need for 3rd party extra softwares?

Again, I cannot guarantee anything. No one can. I am not sure where you are going with this. If you are trying to decide on the 7970m vs the 680m, then, well, that decision is yours to make. I forgot that the guy had a Clevo. On AW, I don't think BF3 has problems. And again, I am not sure he does either if he is getting an average above 40 but min of 20 or 25 or whatever at some points.

If you think you want to pay $300 more for the 680m, that is your decision to make. I used throttlestop and got my War in the North problem solved. I do not have BF3 and I do not want to purchase it for this so I cannot verify that problem.

use 5.0, should work atleast on a 3610qm. I heard the 3.0.0.1 doesn't support the new ivy bridge.
