    Hi there,

I've just purchased Mirrors Edge, and I have a dedicated PhysX Card in my M1730. For some reason though the game doesnt recognise I have one.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I have tried the latest PhysX drivers and the ones that come with the game.

    Regards Jim

Have you confirmed that the game supports PhysX technology?

yes. mirror's edge is one of the first games to use a lot of physx effects =p. i just played through it on my desktop with a 9800 GTX w/ physx turned on. despite a few quirks, the game is really a lot of fun. it kinda leaves you wishing there was more, seeing that it was a full priced game. portal offers a similar experience but for 30 dollars less.

i found this thread in the nvidia forums with someone experiencing a similar problem as you: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=86579

i read over it, it seems as though the dedicated cards require an older driver to work with mirror's edge, but even if you do get it working, the game will take a big enough FPS hit from physx that it will be questionable whether or not it's even worth it to have the option turned on.

not what you want to hear, but check out that thread i linked it will help you more than i can.

    Thanks for the help mate,

Looks like PhysX is gonna be as successful as DX10. :)

I was hoping a dedicated card would solve the lag issues but it doesnt look like it.

PhysX has been implemented into the 8 and 9 series video cards. The actual PPU unit its heavily outdated.

PhysX still has a chance to be successful, but the standalone chips are all but worthless.

I always thought the standalone chips were a ridiculous idea.

Speak for yourselves, some folks have taken lower end cards like 8600GT, 8800GS or 9600GSO and have used them as dedicated PPUs. Various ways of doing this, but still a cool idea what to do with some of your old outdated cards. In other games like GTA4 you can bump your FPS by disabling PhysX on your primary card, like on my Gateway P-7811 FX, but on my desktop it does little to nothing (must be some other factors at play).

Nvida bought that company and I thought they phased out the stand alone with there new stuff. I do not think the old ones even work anymore.

GTA4 doesn't support Phsyx, Its physics are done within the game's Euphoria engine.

PhysX is a great idea, its just poorly implemented at the moment.

Given time to mature, I think it could be rather promising.

No what I meant GTA4 gets a little lower FPS with PhysX. I haven't played Mirror's Edge yet without the PhysX, but it played great.

Latest update is for all Ageia Cards, so that would be a resounding no (9.09.0121).

I tried 9.09.0121, installing that one for Mirrors Edge. I still didnt have any luck with the game recognising my card. Will just have to see if another big game using Physx and let me use my card.

It doesn`t recognise it, it only works with the software physx for some reason.
    Sad indeed.

    How do you mean eleron911?
As in it only recognises Nvidia Software for Geforce PhysX?

    Pretty much, yes.
If I enable software physx , it definitely affects performance, whereas the card is not used at all.
