I've been having this problem for almost a year now, and from all the searching I've done, it seems as if I'm the only one who's had it. I own a Dell E1505 with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with Windows XP MCE 2005 OS. The two initial Catalyst drivers released by Dell had no issues with the deinterlacing options - all functioned fine. However, when I installed their third (and it seems final - its been a year since their last release) driver for XP, the Vector Adaptive Deinterlacing setting is missing in the pulldown menu. I chalked it up to them screwing up the driver, and waited for the next version. One never came.
I learned shortly thereafter you could use official Mobility Catalyst drivers released by ATI. I did so, hoping it would clear up the issue, but alas no luck; tried every single driver release since Catalyst 6.8 and, for whatever reason, Vector Adaptive just isn't present in the pulldown menu. Just to see if it wasn't due to accidently altering some other registry setting, I reverted back to the second driver release by Dell (the last one that had listed the VA deinterlacing option), and it worked great. However, using 14 month old drivers isn't a viable option for me. I was ready to write it off for good, until I noticed the latest Catalyst (7.7) included improvements to AVIVO. I installed them hoping that finally this would correct the problem, but again, no dice. The only deinterlacing options I'm capable of selecting are Weave, Bob, Adaptive, and Motion Adaptive. I've included two screenshots, the first of which is Dell's second Catalyst driver release (with the VA deinterlacing setting), and the second is a snapshot of the current driver's deinterlacing settings (notice the slider only has 4 settings, with Motion Adaptive being the highest).
I'm truly at a loss. Is there any registry setting that somehow enables/disables Vector Adaptive deinterlacing? Or causes it to not display?
Due to the uniqueness of my problem, I'm not expecting anyone to have answers. However, would someone who's ATI card is capable of Vector Adaptive deinterlacing kindly paste their ControlSet/Control/Video/000 registry entries? I'll compare it to my own, and perhaps I'm missing a particular string or two.
I know that there isn't a huge difference between Motion Adaptive and Vector Adaptive deinterlacing, but since one of the primary functions of this laptop would be as a TV/DVD player, AVIVO was a big reason why I went with ATI - so I'd like to maximize this computer's capabilities. Some other information:
1. I use PowerDVD 7 with the latest patch/build.
2. I've done a clean uninstall of previous drivers before installing subsequent ones, down to removing every last remnant.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can provide on this matter. Thanks in advance.
