I'm trying to find a laptop that suits all my needs. I'm not necessarily looking for gaming laptop per se, as the only game I'm really currently into (and I barely have time to play as it is) is Dragon Age: Origins. This game has been out for almost 2 1/2 years now, so I don't imagine I'd need anything crazy.

What GPU would allow me to play the game at max settings with some mods installed (such as improved atmosphere)?

    Thanks a lot!!

A 555M/650M or 7690M will play it on a 720p with a lot of eye candy. That would be a good Minimum Spec.

That games doesn't take a huge amount of horsepower. On 1024x768, it plays well on my kids HD5450 Desktop.

Thanks man! Well, I'm not sure if Dragon Age: Origins can even be bumped up to 1080P, but I am aiming to get a 1080P laptop. Will I need a card better than the ones you've described above to still max it?

DA:O runs at a very high frame rate at 1920x1080 with my laptop which has a fairly mediocre GPU. If you get a laptop with graphics card at this level or above, you should be fine for 1080p.

Older Bioware games like DA:O and ME1+2, etc., can be maxed at 1080p without powerful hardware. Even DA2 (with high res texture pack) and ME3 run great at 1080p with my laptop, although the framerate is a bit lower than DA:O. Bioware games are not very demanding compared to Witcher 2, for example.

MovieMarketing is spot on. Those games are really not intense.. There are no benchmarks anywhere that i can find, but i have a feeling that you could get away with 1080p even on the hardware i spec'd above. Of course, you can always scale the game down to 720p if you need to (on the 1080p display).

If you have aspirations for more demanding games later on, might want to go ahead and invest in something a little more powerful.

But if you are on a budget, the 7690M is a great value GPU, Same with the 640/650/660M lineup that is just now hitting the streets.
