Fudzilla is reporting that a mobile Radeon 38x0 is coming soon:

AMD's recently launched RV670 chip already found a lot of early adopters in Radeon 3870 and 3850 cards, but DAAMIT actually plans to get this chip to mobile as soon as possible.

Just as Nvidia plans a mobile G92 version of Geforce 8800GT branded as 8800M GTX, ATI will introduce its RV670 mobile chip. ATI has a big advantage as it dissipates less than 80W, at least for the desktop part, but with some optimizations and more modest clocks we might be getting a great mobile GPU at a great price performance ratio.

Traditionally AMD has to wait for OEMs to change their cycle and as soon as this happens, in other words when one of the big OEMs or ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) releases a machine powered with mobile RV670, AMD will introduce this part.

Could be a nice alternative to the 8800M GTX, if ATI undercuts Nvidia pricing again.

AMD Mobile RV670 will be cooler than Nvidia due to 55nm technology

Any ideas when this card will become available? I have a feeling that it could be a couple of months before it is finally available. Yea it should definitely run cooler than the 8800 gtx due to the 55 nm process. Hopefully it will be comparable to the nvidia in performance.

I would assume that since it's 55nm, they can make it closer to the actual desktop card while keeping the power consumption and heat down, unlike the 8800m GTX since it's made on 65nm, more modifications to the origional obviously had to have been made.

Any chance it will be cheaper then the 8800GTX and fit in a 15.4"? If its cooler, performs better, and cheaper might hold off buying something like the m15x.

I would think that if the mobile RV670 is cooler and more power efficient than the 8800M GTX, the trade off is that it'll be slower than it too given that the desktop HD3870 (RV670) can't beat the desktop 8800GT (G92).

I wonder if the introduction of high-end mobile parts based on the RV670 and G92 will be followed by a refresh of the current mainstream parts? Tech Report above, said that the G98 has been pulled forward into December for desktops, and the G98 is a 65nm shrink of the 80nm G86 used in the 8500, 8400, 8300 series and the 8600M GS. 65nm shrinks of current nVidia mobile chips would be nice along with higher clock speeds, since the DX10 performance of these DX10 GPUS have been lackluster, and Crysis even in DX9 mode could use a bit of help too.

But given that it's already smaller/cooler, won't it need to be cut down less to fit in a notebook and, therefore, retain more of it's desktop performance/speed in comparison to the cut down of the 8800m desktop to notebook conversion?

Well, I never got the impression that the desktop 8800GT (G92) was particularly power hungry. In comparisons, the HD 3570 (RV670) does consume less power when idle, but the RV670 and 8800GT (G92) actually consume about the same under load, and considering that the 8800GT is faster to begin which, the G92 probably has better performance/watt than the RV670 despite being at 65nm versus 55nm. This is similar to the 8800GTX generally having better power characteristics than the HD 2900XT despite being on a 90nm process compared to 80nm, and yet it still blatantly outperforms it. ATI's high end parts haven't been power efficient for a while and this includes the X1900/X1950 too.

i hope dell is the first to introduce them. since they are one of the big OEM companies that ordered them.

i really want an alternative to the 8400m GS in their vostro 1400 :).

Does this mean it will replace the HD 2600 in the 8510p? Should I wait before buying the 8510p?

    A business consumer would NOT need a HD38x0 :)

We don't know what the wattages of the cards are or the clocks of the ati card at this point, but I will probably buy whichever consumes less power in the end.

Exactly what I want in a laptop

Yep, it's seldom that a business notebook that has anything more than a mid range.. If the mobile HD3800 can't fit a 15.4" and perform non better or par witht the 8800M GTX, ATI is better off keeping it with themselves...
