Seems like a pretty good machine. I'm going to suspect that your presumption is close to spec, it makes sense. Honestly I'm more interested in smaller machines, and I'd like to see what could be done in a 14 inch machine.

GTX 460M is based on the GF106 GPU. From the looks of things the GTX460M will be a 192 core/192-bit GPU (as seen in the ASUS Lambo VX7) but GF106 could still have potential derivatives in the 144 core to 240 core range. For desktop cards GF106 could have model numbers 430 thru 455.

The desktop GTX 460 is using the GF104 GPU which has 336 CUDA cores (cut down from 384) and my guess is that GF104 won't show up in mobile form unless Nvidia has to fire back at ATi with a GTX 485M.

There's also GF108 that's been spotted with 96 cores in the MSI FX700 which is looking like the GTS 430M right now.

I highly doubt that since the 480M GTX barely beats a 5870.
If we are lucky I would hope for at least 5850 performance.

I am guessing a 460M will come in below a 5850, hopefully greater than the 5670.

That is almost like a desktop GTX 260 the older one, at least with the number of stream processors.

A new 485M will be faster than the current GTX 465 based 480M if it based off the current 460 desktop chip since the 460 is more efficient per W and so it could be clocked higher.

Indeed. Why nvidia decided to launch their new mobile GPU flagship on the GF100 half-failure (or full depending on where you stand) is beyond me when they had the GF104 which is obviously so much better in the TDP / Performance ratio.

I have a 460m myself (upgraded from an 280m overclocked to the 285m's clocks) and I can tell you that the 460m is quite a bit better. I am able to get a 3dmark vantage GPU only score of 8450 with some overclocking (with a combined score of over 10400). As for real world gaming performance I am averaging probably 10-15 FPS HIGHER with the same settings on most games with the exception of Crysis and Metro 2033. So...my recommendation would be this:

    Gtx 480m > Hd 5870 > Gtx 460m ≥ Hd 5850 > Gtx 285m > Gtx 260m.

The 5850 and 460m are very comparable and in some cases the 460m outshines the 5870. Overall I am very pleased with my upgrade.
