Not sure if this is posted yet, but according to notebookcheck.net, an ATi Mobility 3850 x2 beat out two 8800M GTXs in SLi. Link:

only in 3dmark.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
meh. 3dmarks aren't everything. i'll wait for a more reliable bench. (3dmark06 has its share of issues, but notebookcheck.net has its own set of issues- they are pretty unreliable in general)
i've always held by the statement that 3dmark is really only useful for comparing cards of the same generation and brand against each other.
in other words, two geforce 8 series cards, or two hd 3000 series cards...
but drawing sweeping conclusions from a comparison of 8800's in SLI to a 3850x2 with 3dmark06 is just... well... irresponsible.
but i don't have any stock in the 8800 series, and i would really be happy to see ati take the crown for a bit. more power to em. i support both companies. eagerly await more conclusive results. -
Additionally, due to the nature of statistics, the figure on notebookcheck was the average of three scores, two of which are higher than the 12800 the 3850x2 rated. (13850, 12847 and 10824)
And like what Nirvana said, it's on 3dmark06. -
exactly i want to know what it was used in??
-
Dont ATI cards usually do better in 3dmark06 anyway? Use a game to benchmark!!!
-
True, I wouldn't put any much stock in 3dmark06, though in some instances it is a valid indicator of performance. But considering that this is a 3850 x2 (which is supposed to be heads up with the 8800 GTS in SLi), this might raise a few eyebrows. Also, I think I got some more information about the setup:
apparently the CPU was a T9600 (which isn't even on the market yet):
http://www.techpowerup.com/62683/Computex_2008_AMD_showcases_Core_2_Duo_T9600_notebook_at_Computex.html
and it's on a new unmarked Asus notebook. Could this be the C80? or even the C70?!? -
I don`t trust these results, nor do I trust notebookcheck,it is known for erroneus posts.
Plus 3dmark=squat, gaming performance show that Nvidia still leads. -
Notebookcheck is....garbage.
Lol since when is the 8400M G classed better than the 8400M GT..
a disgrace i tell you... -
-
for the 100th time , this site is BS, it posts my cards as 6k 3dmark06... rofl
-
I prefer to see in game screen shots and vids to see how cards stack up.
-
I get 5600 with Xp and a T7500. -
Actually I have a 7900 GTX OC at 7950 GTX clocks and I get about 5900 on default settings in 3dmark2006 and 5450 at 1440x900.
The CPU is a T2700.
I use the drivers from Nvidia's website.
I think it's quite good and I can play WiC with pretty much everything on.
Another thing is that notebookcheck ranks the cards not only on their 3dmark score but on scores in 3dmark2005, 2006 and fps in Fear, Doom 3 etc. Until now I can say they do rank the cards pretty much as they perform in games.
But then again, I could be wrong. -
Funny with notebook check is that they don´t write which laptop they used for testing. They just assume the 3850x2 will perform like this, I bet you they do they have no sources whatsoever. Edited
-
lets say the t9600 was clocked @ 2.6ghz. the cards arent doing anything super. the other Card is adding 1700 points only.
-
just to clear up this mess am a 3dmark guru and the results u guys see there are bull****. At leadt for the cards that has round numbers like 12800 points etc.
They have not even tested the cards they just write down a number they THINK the cards will get but they have not tested them in 3Dmark yet. Trust me i used to be confused about this before so i started to study it and this is what i found out. -
Yup same thing happened to me when i was about to buy my notebook, i was like : Hey, why am i going to spend 3k+ $ to get 2 cards that score 6900 points?
