Does anyone know what MXM version the new Mobility 4860 and 4870 GDDR5 will be compatible with? I just want to know for future upgrading purposes.
-
-
it would be safe to assume MXM III
But then again, i'm not so sure -
It would be safe to assume MXM IV for the 4870.
-
Does the Sager NP5797 have MXM IV?
-
I don't think so...
And isn't the 4860 a smaller version of the 4850/70? Wouldn't that require a different heatsink? -
well AW has *confirmed
" the 4870 ddr5 for the m17 so what ever is in it should work. im not sure so i figure ill just state that

so theoritcally if I wanted a Mobility 4870 GDDR5 in the future, I would buy the card, update my bios, intalll the drivers, and everything is perfect?
-
Yes, if BIOS support is released for the card, the upgrade will be that easy.
-
Isn't the mobile version of the 4870, GDDR3? At least that is what it is in the Asus W90...

There's supposed to be a GDDR5 reference version coming out for the M17, but they're having issues with the release.
-
The 4870 in the w90 seems to be nothing more than an overclocked 4850. The gddr5 version is supposedly the true 4870.
-
the 4870 will be out in ddr 5. Asus released that "4870" with ddr3 on there own, really its a slightly overclocked 4850
.
AW support has confirmed that they are going to release a ddr5 and some member that have sold the whitebook say that flex has been working on the cooling for the system. Which is the current problem
i read a article some where that said "ATI has always planned for the 4870 to be ddr5" Asus just did there own thing with their cards -
I am really looking forward for getting one!
-
can the Sager NP5797's cooling system support the Mobility 4870 GDDR5?
-
If it comes out in MXM, it'll likely be on the new MXM-B form factor which is completely incompatible with the current MXM-II, III, and IV slots. Nvidia made the changeover with the new GTS 150M/160M and GTX 260M/280M, so it'll only make sense for ATi to do the same with its high-end models.

Hm. In that case, I guess it's up to the individual OEM.
Mobility 4860 and 4870 GDDR5, what MXM?
