    Mobility Radeon 9700 with games

    If anyone owns a notebook with a MR 9700 (either 64, 128, or 256 MB), could you tell me what frame rates you get out of these games?

    When you do respond, tell me your computer's specs so I can get a complete idea of how well this card does. All games should be run at 1280 x 1024 (or an equivalent SXGA-ish res) with AA and AF enabled. Then if you really want to make me happy, do the same thing with AA and AF disabled. You don't have to do all these games. Just one will do.

    I have a 9600 64mb and I can run Farcry at 1280x800 with a custom setting and no AA or AF, but then again I don't even use those on my more powerful desktop.

    I hear that Far Cry's anti-aliasing is really inefficient. It brings my computer to its knees, but I think there are driver issues.

    I wouldn't worry about framerates. The 9700 will play anything today on highest settings without anti-aliasing.

    Completed mods:
    GPU cooling (100°C->75°C)
    Mods in progress:
    8600c to 8600 keyboard swap (to get the eraser head).
    Tweaks: Radeon 9600 pro (337/242) at 400/300

    Well, notebooks generally aren't the greatest for gaming. The Radeon 9700 is the best you can get, but even its performance is only on par with a desktop 9600 Pro (which is a mainstream, middle-of-the-pack performer).

    It would be nice if ATI would release a mobile graphics card with 256 bit memory :) Until then, we'll probably have to live with lower resolutions and "medium" detail :(

    I'm probably going to hold off my laptop purchase until Q1 2005 to wait and see how that goes. I've been fighting between getting a laptop now or getting one when the first PCI Express laptops come out.

    If you want a radeon 9700 on the cheap, go with the Dell Inspiron 9100. With coupon codes applied, you can get a beast for less that $1400

    No, it most definitely will not. The size still is not enough to compensate for the amount of heat the desktop pentium 4 produces. The 9100's fan runs all the time, and is very noisy. My 8600's fan only comes on when gaming or doing something really CPU intensive.
