    Hey, everyone!
i seem to see more and more questions about the modded .inf from laptopvideo2go. What is it?
Well, so far, all i could figure out is that it adds additional support not included in the pc hardware version of nvidia cards for its mobile products.
    Example(post by user giblets): http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2533290#post2533290
he actually installed it(pc version drivers), but didn't have support for the mobile power-mizer settings...

i do not know if we can come up with a sticky about it, but any other observations are welcomed.

    Thank you,

    BiG_V

yes, that seems to be a rather heated issue right now. we should try overclocking the drivers of the pc version!!! if that works, clearly there's something in the inf file that's blocking the overclocking(lol i typed over****ing instead of overclocking at first and it covered the rest of the word)!!

any takers, cuz im going to sleep?! that may actually work(but no powermizer)

I'm using the 163.71 drivers from them and I can overclock my Go7950GTX with riva tuner and I can also change my power-mizer settings. Maybe it's a problem only with the 8xxxM cards?

I'm not using Laptopvideo2go inf.I'm modding original inf by adding HW ID Code. That's all.So it mean I'm using ORIGINAL DESKTOP inf instead of MOBILE one

The important modifications made to the LV2G INF's is the inclusion of mobile device ID's, allowing the driver installation program to recognize the mobile hardware.

so, all of a sudden, no one is actually interested in trying this out? if the 8600gt pc version can be overclocked, which i assume it can, then the mobile version with the pc drivers can be overclocked as well. if it doesn't, then at least we're gonna know, it's not the drivers that cause that.... i'm not sure if i'll have time to do it today, but anyone is more than welcomed to try it out.

    Thank you,

    well, some updates:
i did install the regular drivers. the process went alright. tried overclocking with riva 2.05, but the settigns would go back. restarted the comp and the resolution turned to 640*480, 4 bit quality and would not revert back to normal....xp kept telling me that the driver was produced 4 the previous version of windows blah, blah, blah... so i had to install the 71's with the modded inf... dunno what's the problem with overclocking is then...

Yes, you can overclock desktop 8 series fine with new drivers and Rivatuner. The issue is not truly a driver one, the issues is that mobile video cards have never been supported by popular overclocking programs like Rivatuner, so it's hit or miss if you'll be able to 'OC.

but with the desktop drivers, how would riva know that it is still a mobile card?

I wouldn't, there's no way he's going to help you with a question about a mobile card, trust me.

Because the device id on a mobile card is different than that on a desktop card, the driver's can't hide that.

I can second that, I tried to ask about mobile card temperature, and his respond wasn't quite that friendly.

well, didn't get his response yet, but read a couple of posts concerning on why the overclocking is not possible. One user posted that "in the 163 driver series, the change of the clocks for the mobile adapters is only allowed downward(u can only downclock, but not overclock). They were also talking about how Unwinder doesn't include the support because there are no samples of the cards available for testing...
