Modern Warfare 2 Free Weekend

Steam announced a Modern Warfare 2 free weekend. Starts Thursday at 4PM PST. Should be on front page of steam loader, or google it or whatever. Have fun guys So those of you haven't played this impressive game here's your chance for no cost.

But to bad the game is such a massive fail, I don't see a lot of people are going to play this.

 

Pre-load complete. I'll give it a try but have no intentions of buying it. And yes, I know that I haven't even tried it yet.

Does it include the single-player campaign?

I mean, one could obviously knock that one off in a weekend. That's the only way I'm trying it, internet here sucks way too bad to be trying multiplayer FPSing.

its only as the new expansion pack is coming out soon they want to bring the game to the attention of all the noobs that know nothing about dedicated servers.

Plenty of people buy into things that are fail. Just look at Apple....

 

MW2 isnt a fail. some people may not like it u cant say its a terrible game. u can say Red Steel is a terrible game, but u gotta admit, IW created a something that has addicted millions of players.

 

COD4 was better.

 

It definitely a great game, but could have been much better had they just simply added dedicated servers. And the fact the map pack is $15 just goes to show you how money hungry Activison is. I havent played it since I got BC2 and I dont believe I will go back for a while.

COD4 was definitely better than this, I was really disappointed.

 

i have to agree mainly with you mate, it was a very good game (not great IMO) i spent a lot of hours playing it, but it still lacked in certain areas, and was overwhelming frustrating at times, i think mw2 is hurting a little since bc2's release, i tried playing mw2 once since getting bc2 and it felt wrong....very wrong.......i wont be going back to mw2 and i defiantly wont be spending $15 on a map pack.

I just downloaded the mw2 off of steam and i get an error saying:

localization.txt could not be found

I've searched online and there are no fixes. I don't see why its a problem if i download it right off of steam.

anyone else have this problem?

 

Seriously, doubt many can truly say it's a horrible game, that's just not the case. And I'm tired of the dang non stop bashing of this game, it's a fun game, plain and simple. By no means can anyone say it's a horrible game and be legitimate about it. Don't like it? Fine, I get that, but this game isn't horrible and I'm tired of reading people saying it is.

Many game are horrible, but not this one.

Anyone that hasn't tried it, give it a shot. It's a fun, fast shooter with great graphics. And, singleplayer is really fun too, along with SpecOps missions, really a fun package.

And yes, I also really enjoy Bad Company 2.

 

It's not that the game in itself is horrible, it was just such a letdown after thinking another COD4 was coming our way.

If they made it have dedicated servers everything would be okay. With dedicated servers there can just be servers that don't allow those perks and weapons.

 

No i'm in UK and internet's patetic... Official Download speed is 1.8MB/s and when i download stuff , its about 180KB/s.. its crap and i ain't being sarcastic... it is slow... and laggy in Multiplayer but what to do?

 

Im having the exact same problem anyone else having this problem too?
EDIT: i just noticed that its only taking up 3.9GB when its supposed to be taking up like 11GB. This might be cuz its only the multiplayer portion of the game though. Tried verify integrity of game cache but still get the error message.

i just played it for the first time for a bit, and the game itself is pretty awesome. i managed to get in a game with no cheats or anything and it was pretty good. the only thing that makes the game crap is the general public who play it. playing it for the first time its not fun to spawn and then be shot instantly 6 times in a row by some level 70 guy. apart from that, ye i like it. playing a game with a couple of friends was excellent in all ways.

well i only payed 29.99 pounds when i bought it.. it had been 24.99 on amazon..

 

I bought the game for PC soon after it was released. The multiplayer game itself is a great game. The implimentation on the PC by using the Console like IW.Net was a huge mistake for PC's. IW.Net is a complete fail. The automatching feature seems not to be able to keep pings in a reasonable range. The wait between can be interminable. And, the servers were full of hackers and morons.

As soon as BC2 came out, I went back to dedicated servers. I think that COD4 plays better on its dedicated servers than MW2 does on IW.Net. IMO, the sales of MW2 are largely attributable to the success of COD4. Many of the PC players from MW2 have migrated to BC2 . The map packs will sell well on consoles but I wonder if there is still a decent PC market for the game.

First of all, it won't be bandwidth that's an issue for online games; it will be latency. Second of all, you mean 1.8 Megabits (Mb) and not 1.8 Megabytes (MB).

I've played games on much slower connections than that and been fine.

 

I have the same problem, but it's not a big deal. I know I will not like the game anyways.

 

It's because Steam messed up the downloads and they are incomplete. You must delete your content and then re-download. Then you will get the 11GB instead of 4GB and you'll be able to play no problem.

 

Just restart Steam and it will finish downloading the rest.

 

Dunno I think MW2 is a good game. Multiplayer.

 

I've been playing it for a while, and it's not as horrible as I thought it would be. I haven't run into too many campers, only 1 game out of 20+ that was unplayable because of a bad host, and some fun new perks/additions.

It's fun, but still not fun enough enough to make me want to buy it. The free weekend was good enough to answer how I thought it would play out.

 

I agree the weekend was enough. No way I would pay full price or even half for it. The multi-player is fun but it just doesn't feel right. In any case, the only part worth most about the game is probably the single player story. Not that I have played it, but if it's anything like CoD 4's story then we are good.

 

I don't know why people think COD6 is a fail. Multiplayer is so good. I downloaded the free weekend and merked it up. I normally just play it on PS3 anyway. ( Brother owns PS3 and game I play xbox more then anything ) yeah...

 

CoD4 had a better single player campaign, CoD6 was really scattered, although it definitely had some shining moments, the grandness and context that you always felt in CoD4 was totally absent.

 

Yup Xbox 360 I play live I like the game. I have a Ps3 and a G73. Game is good. But Cod if you play by yourself you can never get ppl to talk and at least tell you where the campers are?? Team work is how you will. You don't need to talk alot.

 

Yeah CoD4 set the standard for me in single player. It was epic. Short but epic.

I was glad to see return characters in CoD6 but they just did not have the same charm and life to them as they did in the old game.

It felt kinda like what they do with moves. Take good looking and popular actor/actress A and put them in horrible movie B and people will watch horrible movie B just because person A is in that movie.
You may have enjoyed the movie because that person was there but the movie as a whole sucked.

Seeing the CoD4 guys made the game ok, but the game itself was not up to the grand scale CoD4 was, and had person A not been in the game it would have been much worse as there would have been no point of connection.

 

Multiplayer is unorganized, because there is no croud control system, nobody can do anything, if other spam nades and tube.

 

the multiplayer, all in all, total honesty, is pretty darn fun. you just have to accept the consoleyness to enjoy it.

of course, you don't HAVE to accept it, and can pick a different game, but to a degree the system works.
