Montevina IGP vs HD 3200 in AMD Puma? WHICH IS EXPECTED TO BE BETTER? I know they cant be real world tested yet with games or even benchmarked, but is one suppose to outdo the other hands down?

There's this little thing in the world, called 'trade secrets' and 'patent rights' (Unless you're Dell's new 'E' computer, or Intel's hostile takeover division). So, until these chip sets are available for retail, we won't know, because nobody outside of these two companies has any idea what they can really do, and neither side is really anxious to 'whip it out and measure it' pre-release.
I expect the Intel platform to be slightly more powerful, but the AMD set to be slightly more cost effective. I don't imagine there is any significant 'hands down' differences based on past experience regarding these two companies. -
I really dont care about processor performance, just a decent processor with a decent IGP, Im thinking intel will have more powerful hardware but its power will not be quickly realized cuz of poor/slowly developed drivers (its taking forever for x3100 drivers) and I doubt it will be an issue with the 3200 since it is ati catalyst drivers.
-
I'd put my money on AMD. Intel might be a little over half as fast.
I think we had a preview video of PUMA versus X3100, and PUMA kicked the crap out the X3100. I think it was over 3 times faster. I don't think X4500 will be 3 times faster than the X3100, so odds are this win will go to AMD. -

The HD 3200 performs close to as well as the HD 3450 does. As far as IGPs go, it's some kind of monster. It's more powerful than some last generation dedicated parts.
I have a hard time imagining a universe where the X4500 would have a chance against it. -
So to paraphrase, this competition is actually the Montevina IGP (X4500) vs THE MONSTER PUMA. Hard to beat an IGP with a name like that.
-
HAHA, marketing at it's best.
-
Lol... let's just wait and see I don't think anybody can make any kind of educated assumptions at this point based on the info we got so far.
-
Can't we?
"Intel is aiming this solution to be 3x faster than the GMA 3100 (G33) in 3DMark06 performance, resulting in a score of around 1000 points."

So lets extrapolate that even if x3100 is 3 times faster, the HD3200 will still beat it, even in a notebook platform.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
Fun thread guys, monster puma is funny. lol, though i still think intel has to get there act together with their drivers.
-
LOL!
Congratulations, your brand new integrated graphics solution released in 2008 can successfully play Farcry, a game released in March, 2004 on low settings. Round of applause everyone. -

how soon till we will see PUMA platform notebooks like the MSI 12"?
and will they use sideport memory? -
I've got a HP TX2500Tablet on order that has the Puma and 3200HD, suppose to ship next week, and I think a few that ordered a couple days earlier were shipped out today.... so, should be soon. I'm very curious myself!

Must. Post. BENCHMARKS! *gasp*

Well, I'll give you guys an idea.
The G45 on the desktop is going to be clocked at 800MHz and fastest memory support will be DDR3-1333.
The GM45 and GM47 on the laptop will be clocked at 533MHz and 640MHz respectively, with DDR3-1066 support.
GM45 scores 950 in 3DMark06, to give an example.
For 780G chipset and its HD3200 IGP however, they use equal or better IGP for the mobile one!!
According to AMD marketing presentations, Turion Ultra and the IGP in Puma will score ~1800 in 3DMark06. -
Intel doesnt do GFX, so dont expect they're stuff to be better then a dedicated GFX company like Nvidia or ATI/AMD, and I think they used a dedicated chip and made it integrated, that could explain why it is so much more powerful then anything else at this point. PLUS PUMA has the PCI-E attachment so you could expand graphics and use a desktop card with a docking solution for it.

I haven't looked at an integrated card as a viable option and never considered buying a laptop with one because I refuse to play a game at a non-native resolution. But in 6 months or so when I have the money to buy another computer I wouldn't mind a PUMA equipped 11-12" laptop to carry around and still be able to raid in WOW. That video was impressive
-
This new ATI video solution sounds good for AMD but I like more an Intel option with discrete nvidia graphics.
-
No way the Intel X4500 will come close to touching the AMD puma. PUMA performance (for 3D) shocked pretty much everybody in the business. PUMA beats a Geforce 8400GS!!!!
Intel graphic is renowned for falling way short of their promises. And even their promises wont beat what PUMA delivers. Right now.

If you want to play games don't buy Intel integrated graphics. I thought that was pretty obvious already but I guess not for everyone.
-
I'm seriously gonna get a shotgun and charge into AMD HQ and blast the guts out of those nerds who made the IGP better than my 8400M GS- just like in the FPS's that we all play. And I'll make sure that the settings will be turned up so I can enjoy the moment.

intergrated isnt for real hardcore gamers, but the laptops are cheap with them and you can still play older games, just not the very latest games. cant wait to see all these out and about
-
True. And you also get a lot better battery life with IGP than with dedicated, which is very important to many. I find it strange that some people say: "You can't play games with a laptop with IGP". You can play games with them. Just not the latest ones, but something released like three or five years back. Also, not even all new games use heavy 3D engine that requires a lot from graphics card, so even some of them might run quite allright. Atleast I find it quite exciting that you can play some great old titles many hours in a row outside in a park, coffee shop etc. something you usually can't do with a laptop equipped with a powerful graphics card.

To me its really more about getting the most powerful graphics in a small package(prefereably 12-13 inch range)!
