Moonbase Alpha on Steam

I'm downloading it now.

 

Looks like a nice game, and it dident even need to add guns or 15$ map packs.

 

But it would have been 100x cooler with aliens and laser blasters!

 

That looks like a pretty interesting game, I would love it 10 times more however if the space in the background had stars, planets, nebulae etc.

It has stars but even that's a bit unrealistic considering the game is made by NASA! You can't see any stars from the moon!

as this is a mod of UT3 i am guessing you have to have UT3 to play it?

 

The game is based on the UT3 engine. Anyone can download and play it. It is quite entertaining I might add. Supposedly, this game is a testbed for a future MMO based on space exploration I think.

This is amazing! NASA did what AA2 tried with twice the visual appeal and half (actually zero) the need for weapons or combat. It's like some sort of prequel Shattered Horizons players wish they had: just daily life and research on the Moon, floating about as a NASA astronaut. The Unreal engine looks delicious as always.

 

So is this a NASA propaganda game, much like America Army? From the trailer it looks like a moon sim, where you just work on the moon. Don't know how I feel about that...

 

wht stars are we talking about because i can see the stars in the game...there is a option in the mean to enable stars

Played it a bit today, pretty cool, and quite nice looking. Will play it more later, right now it is so hot here. Not a good day for gaming (no air conditioning) more fun feeding squirrels and looking at fireflies in the park... lol

 

kind of reminds me of Outpost (1994) and Outpost 2 (1997) in 3D. I would love to play Moonbase, but im sure my integrated x3100 and 1.66ghz Dual Core just dont cut it.

I saw the trailer and was like "oh free sci fi game!" Then, "no, its a nasa simulator where you fight with your co workers on which rocks to examine first".

 

Actually, what this tech demo is centered around is having 25-minutes to restore oxygen to the living quarters on the moon, before you run out and die due to damage caused by an earlier meteor strike.

This game is not meant to be a full game, it's a test bed and tech demo for an upcoming space MMO by NASA which will not be free but will cost less than WoW.

 

It sounds interesting.
But I don't like the fact I have to install Steam on my system to download and run it.
I'm sorry, but I prefer having the least amount of programs on my computer, and if I'm not mistaken, STEAM likes to embed itself into the startup function.
I could disable it from that yeah, but will it work properly after that?

Is there an alternative link one can download this demo at?
Besides, Steam won't be available to me since it's not supported in Croatia.

 

STEAM is a fine piece of software and you can disable it from starting automatically when Windows boots without any problems as I do this myself.

STEAM should work everywhere, try it, you won't be disappointed.

There's nothing wrong with Steam, and you can easily tell it to not start with Windows in the Settings.

 

The game doesn't work for me on m11x. I can hear the sounds/music and all but I all see is the black screen when I run it and then it automatically minimizes itself to the task bar (same thing happens if I click on it again).

Any suggestions?

Any news on what this new MMO will actually be about? like what can we expect? Just thinking about it, would it just be something like Home for the PS3 but set on the moon with like special quests and such like fiing broken cables and such?

 

Curious where you read that. I've been a Steam user for three years now, Steam just make your credit card lighter if you don't wait for sales

If not, you do have the option of using key disks and doing your own search for bug spray and updates.

I downloaded it, unfortunately the Steven Hawking voice is the only fun thing about the Moonbase Alpha demo.
