Hey folks, quick question, what happens if you upgrade 1gbz ram to 2gbz ram? Does it just decrease level loading times? what are the positive points of getting more ram when playing games
-
-
more performance too
-
as in less lag?
-
it increases the fps in games and also speeds up vista if your on that os. but it will not affect loading times
-
Im on XP, sweet, i guess ill go upgrade than
Anyone know where i can get good deals on 1gbz stick ram DDR2? -
agreed!
i'm upgrading from 2 to 3gb of RAM tomorrow lol -
try newegg.com. they have pretty good deals
-
Thanks, btw how do you check the highest ram you can upgrade to?
-
u can upgrade the highest to 4gb but xp will only recognize 3.2 gb as u need a 64bit edition to get the whole ram used. more than 2gb wont give u any preformance boosts
-
thanks sly, i guess ill just upgrade to 2 then.

EDIT: Also, if i get the ram upgrade, would i be able to OC my graphic card higher? -
glad to help

you can never have enough ram the more you put in the faster the os.
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/ram4.htm
your going to need more then what it states because its outdated but you'll get the concept -
thats not true. ill give u can example. the moreu press the throttle the faster the car goes but after a point u cant make i go any faster. its the same with the ram. with xp even 1 gb is fine but vista needs 2 gb to function properly so if he has 2 gb in xp he wont see the difference between 3 or 2 gb as the maximum spped has been achieved
-
uhhh...2gb is enough for vista but 3gb will certainly help lol
-
ok, i currently have a DDR2 SDRAM PC2-5400 installed, should i get the same spec? If i get the PC2-6400, would that still work for my notebook? does it make a noticable difference?
-
just get the same u have now
-
well if im gonna upgrade the ram, might as well upgrade to maximum my notebook can handle
-
that is the maximum your ntebook can handle
-
so then i can't get the 1gbz pc2-6400 than?
-
how much ram do u have now
-
1gbz stick pc2-5400, i want to get a 1gbz stick pc2-6400, im wondering if that would show a noticeable difference ( either purchasing 1gbz pc2-5400 or 1gbz pc2-6400)
-
does your notebook have 1 or 2 ram slots
-
2 slots, one is used
-
so the other is empty. did u add the current ram your self
-
if you mix and match ram speeds (5400 and 6400), the faster module of ram will revert down to the slower speed (5400), so getting 6400 will not help unless you get 2 sticks and replace what you have now.
-
no, it came installed with 1gbz in 1 slot. Err i know the other is empty, im asking what is a better Ram stick purchase, 1gb pc2-5400 or 1gb pc2-6200
-
Oh one more thing. The t2400 processor has an FSB of 667mhz, meaning your pc2 6400 800mhz ram will be limited to 667mhz. Just get the pc2 5400.
-
no notebook processor can use 800mhz ram so thats y im saying both will be equal
-
that's not true. Some of the santa rosa based notebooks can handle 800mhz ram.
-
-
anytime
-
no santa rosa processors can use 800mhz ram
-
SR notebooks do have an 800 FSB, but that doesn't mean it can use 800mhz ram. Sly's right.
-
Ok, so what's the best brand for overclockability? Their is patriot, OCZ, kingston, Corsair, A-data,
Im looking at a PC2-5400 1gbz stick ram -
-
I like Kingston or Corsair, probably corsair if you are looking to OC.
I don't remember exactly the reason, something abou the bridge and whatsit. lol -
-
i see, Im getting a good deal on OCZ and Patriot, don't know how good they are when it comes to OC'ing, anyone have any experiance?
-
u cant overclock ram
-
I ment that using ATI Tray Tools, it says CORE and MEM, i assume if you have more ram, you can increase the MEM?
-
No, that memory is from the GPU, I thought you were talking about OCing and wanted the ram to be kept cool.
-
oh ok, I just thought you can overclock your gpu higher with more ram, guess not, I guess Ill just order the OCZ 1gbz ram stick then
