    hey guys

im old school - although i enjoy playing fps games every once in a while, im kind of looking for a game that ill really get immersed in - something graphically pleasing with a big environment i can really get lost in

i remember playing myst some 12 years ago and loving it - back then, the graphics were just top notch, there was a great story line, and PLENTY of places to explore

are there currently any games that are similar to myst? something with great graphics minus the "run'n'gun" aspect? something that will really make you use your head?

You don't mention if you have played the other Myst games. Unfortunately, Riven is pretty dated at this point, but it's playable...
You can also catch up on the original Myst via RealMyst, which is the original Myst in full 3D.

Anyway, Myst 4 is without a doubt my favourite Myst game. The graphics are absolutely unfathomably amazing. Still 2D stills, of course, but they are very big panoramic images with a lot of dynamic effects thrown on as well as a lot of interactivity. You wouldn't even have to play Myst 3 to follow it (although Myst 3 is also pretty good -- with arguably less painful puzzles).

Myst 5, then, is a bit disappointing for being very easy and for not having FMV actors (which makes no sense given how the scenes with moving characters all had a fixed camera anyway). It's a great game, though, with a really detailed world as well as a fitting conclusion.

As for things that are not Myst games, I understand that Dreamfall is really good, but I have yet to play it myself.

Myst 4, Dreamfall, Siberia (I and II) are all great adventure games.

Try Scratches, as its a First-Person Adventure. Really loved it. Its creepy though. Also Moment of Silence which has top notch production values for adventure.
