AnandTech | Intel's Return to DRAM: Haswell GT3e to Integrate 128MB eDRAM?

I actually wanted to put this on the other thread about gt3e, but given that I would need a mod to approve my post, I did a new thread

That 128MB dedicated memory for the IGP on 512bit memory bus gonna be a game changer for IGPs. I`m still having trouble pitting it against dedicated graphic cards because its 128MB vs 512/1024/2048MB. That gotta play a major role once Intel tries to compete in the 1080p resolutions right?

Sure hope so, the whole idea was to remove the buffer problem, now the main problem is quantity, lets hope that the ultra wide and presumably fast edram works as intended and is available on more cpus from at least 35w

That is actually very impressive. The same memory bandwidth as GT 640M have

Memory bandwidth is not necessarily indicative of actual performance though. I'd like to get ahold of one though and see how it fares. If it can manage Battlefield 4 at 30fps 720p on low, I'll give them some props.

True, what matters is those 40EUs and how much pixels, textures and stuff they can process. But atleast the "highway" is wide enough to transport all those textures without creating a traffic jam :)

All depends on cost. If machines with GT3e costs as much as one with a dedicated 740m then I'll take the dedicated card any day.

indeed, given that intel prices those parts 50 bucks more than the regular ones, we should wait and see how oems react to that, apple will probably move forward with the idea, they were afterall the ones that were asking for it since sandy
