    So right now I have 2 gigs of ram in my system (as you can see in my specs below) anyway I'm planning on upgrading to 3.5 gigs tomorrow when my other stick arrives; delayed due to weather :(. Anyway right now in COD4 I can get anywhere from 30-60+ fps with high settings, will upgrading to another 1.5 gigs show a decent improvement or should I not get my hopes up?

    You won't see much of an improvement in game, if any. If you are running Vista 32, it will barely recognize all of your RAM. More RAM is always better, and is more prepared for the future... but right now, it's a little bit overkill.

    Well, you will see a great increase from say... 1G to 2G. But 2 to 3.5... eh? No doubt will see an increase in Windows performance, if you are a heavy multi-tasker... but aside from that, not much you are gaining.

    Upgrade ram will not boost up framerates!it reduce the stuttering of loading times,in simple words it reduce not the average framerates but only for example the loading times between one large map and another.
    So don't expect that improvement...
    The best improvement you can have is to switch to XP to gain 10% more framerates in all your games.
    I have a XP only for gaming and Vista as main OS...
    (Consider also that when will exit XP Service Pack 3 will boost performance of XP
    http://www.efluxmedia.com/news_Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3_Offers_Performance_Boost_10997.html

    )
    If you use XP 2gb are more than what you need for every application or game,in vista i suggest 3gb if you want to use heavy software as photoshop cs3,but for games 2gb are sufficient

    Are you kidding? I ran photoshop CS3 on an XP computer with 512mb of ram. I now run it on my laptop with 2gb. I see no way that 3 or 4gb of ram would make it run any faster. CS3 is EXTREMELY well programmed and would probably run fine on 1gb of ram on Vista.

    HAHA :)

    preferences-> performance

    Allow to Photoshop to use xxx RAM

    And i ensure you that give photoshop 2gb of ram it's not
    as use 512 ram...

    Before talking start using seriously a software!

    32bit versions of vista and anyother OS can only sense up to 3gb-3.5gb of RAM, however 64bit versions of vista can have x amount of ram. Your system seems very nice and i am suprised you only get 30-60fps. Do you have the latest drivers?
    and no, RAM increase will do very little but maybe help in other aspects of your laptop, but very unlikely in gaming, and for $60 you would be folish not to upgrade :)

    Graphics editing is a VERY different animal from Gaming. While Graphics editing tends to be far more processor and RAM heavy, while Gaming is very GPU dependent. Much of the textures are loaded into video RAM as system RAM is usually much too slow to keep up with Gaming. It's all about the video card. Or IMO about 85% of gaming.

    30-60 fps is very respectable for Call of Duty 4. :D
