Pretty basic question here: Which notebook out there, with a 15" (ok, ok...15.4") or smaller display, offers the highest performance GPU?
Thanks!
-
The best you can get in a 15.4" is a GeForce 7700 or Radeon x1700.
-
Probably the NVIDIA GeForce 7700.
-
Yes, either the x1700 or go 7700.
Most 15.4" systems are still featuring the x1600/go 7600's though. -
Very diplomatic to list both the X1700 and the go7700, Chris... don't want to start another nVidia vs. ATI flame war.
Tseng Labs FTW! -
I hear rumors that the X1700 is horribly terribly slow...see I can say it 'cause I have an X1xx series card.
-
it is nvidia 7700
although you can put a 7800 gtx in a dell m70 -
nVidia 7700 is currently the fastest you'll get and currently the hardest to find. The X1700 is pretty much a X1600 with lower power consumption, and that 7800GTX mod on a m70 (or is it m65) (1) voids your warranty and (2) forces you to severely underclock the 7800.
So yeah, stick with the X1600/X1700 or the 7700. -

The new ASUS G1P is a 15.4" notebook with a Go 7700 and is specifically designed and marketed as a gaming labtop. It may well be the fastest in it's form factor. At the very least it'll have a low response time screen, which visually, may be of more benefit than small GPU differences.

Heheh.... Some of my costumers have stuffed a 7900GS in a 15,4", but that`s hardly a standard configuration
-
Do 15.4" or 15" laptops have Nvidia 7600GT?
-
no
but the 7700 is very similar to a 7600 gt with lower speed ram
the sony ar is the only notebook with a 7600 gt and it is a 17 inch -

The fastest videocard in a notebook is without any doubt the Geforce Go 7700. This videocard will stay at nr. 1 for 3-4 months.

Oooh stock 3DMark '05 and '06 results please. Gaming benches as well! Maybe a little OC'ing too?

According to them: no. Keep in mind FSC has used the same MoBo/cooler combination in a 15,4" and a 17" model.

What is it with manufacturers being scared of DTR GPU's in 15" machines anyways? It used to be you could get a 15" machine with top-o-the-line graphics, even regardless of its heat output or the card size. I hope they don't start reserving the G80-M and up for 19" notebooks only, imagine how crazy that would be! -
1437 if memory serves.
The 1667 is a bit short on space for a III, but it still handles a Arima Special rather nicely.
Core Duo/MXM III is out, not sure about Core 2 Duo. -

If HP could release a 2GHz P-4 15” notebook that used to smoke my coffee cup from a foot away, I find it hard to believe (marketing?) why we don't see a 7900gs/C2D in a 15" format with a 1400x900 or so screen! IMHO a 17" on anything but a desk is a PITA
-
asus used to have a model that had a p4 and a 6800 go. Youre talking heat there.
I do believe sager had a few models with not only a desktop p4 but a desktop gpu card.
Im not really sure why this model left the market because the heat has only gone down in moblie gpus. I think the manufacturers left that format for a while to seperate the consumers in small and large.
Perhaps it will create pent up demand which will make the next machine that fills this need very popular. -
It would seem good marketing sense for one company to realize that there is a nice niche in the market, you could make a killing.
Hey Ice Tea how much have the 7900gs's been going for? (If I got one of those I think I would have to get a faster processor or that would start to be the bottleneck), that is if it fits my chassis... -
380 euros
I hope to bring US price down to 400$ or so, if I can work out the supply.
Expensive, I know -
Heck if it will fit my chassis I'll save up for it, I mean it's just worth it to be able to tell people I have a 15.4 with a 7900. Hmm now with $8 a week allowance, odd jobs for my parents, Christmas, and probably getting a job once the swim season is over it'll be uhhh April yea...
