GTX 280M are the highest you can go with MXM 2.1.

I think the SLI version (2x GTX280M) is the fastest S*** you can get on a laptop atm. :D

First thing, he meant the m15x which is a sinlge card laptop. Second thing, GTX 285M SLI are the fastest, but it is MXM 3.0b. Fastest single laptopcard, regardless of MXM, are the MR5870.

The truth lol... for now... wait till 5870 crossfire or a 5870 with 256bit GDDR5... it will blow away anything... anyways , just a random thing... does the new m17x have GDDR5 ATI 4870 or is it still GDDR3 as notebookcheck.net new review says its GDDR5 and as far as i know GDDR3 is being used.

It is GDDR5. There are huge differences between GDDR3 and GDDR5. I think it will take a some time before 256bit GDDR5 will come :)

There will most likely never be a 256bit GDDR5 model in notebooks. Notebook 58xx series ATI GPUs are based on desktop Juniper chips, which are all 128 bit chips. I don't think they will move up into Cypress architecture (and 256 bit) unless somehow the power requirements suddenly disappear.

Provided you pair a 128 bit memory architecture with GDDR5 memory, bandwidth limitations will be minor or nonexistent. I wouldn't waste my time getting it with GDDR3 though.

    a little ot but...
also ive read in some posts that g73 users pushing their memory clock above a certain value (i forget what exactly) have had to rma their units.
seems gdd5 runs really hot and with the lack of onchip temp sensors in memory, memory o/c should be done with caution.

I've noticed the same thing which is why I sometimes game with the core overclocked to 800, but I leave memory alone. 1ghz is fast enough anyways for now.

And the people who RMA, some claim it had nothing to do with it, blah blah. But I am highly skeptical. I'm talking overclocking memory by 250 to 1250. I'm not surprised their HD5870s bricked. Even if they have A/C and other ways to cool down the laptop.

It was fun to see if my G73 could break 9000 on Vantage, but other than that, I don't really get O/Cing laptops for benchmarks. Sure 10,000 is amazing, since it's almost SLI 285 or XF 4870s.

But considering desktop systems with 5750 killing 20,000 it's not that impressive, overall picture that is.

yeah. i think the mobile 5870 is great when gaming a t 1080p.
desktop gpus are way overpowered for todays console-limited games
heck even the 280m at mxm 2.1 does a great job at 1080p

no the 5870 is MXM III

unfortunatley there is no xfire connection on any of the ATI cards so xfire for the time being is out of the question

    damnit!

    Do you mean MXM3.0?

MXM III sounds more like MXM2.1 type III.
