    hey...
I have often been wondering, what the biggest system requering game is??
Its just so i could try downloading the demo and see if my desktop can handle it...
My guess is Unreal Tournament 2004...

yeah farcry is by far the leader in this area, it will bring a lot of desktops to their knees with full graphics turned on.

It is also a great game and well worth playing IMHO

EQ2 enters beta in a few weeks and the system requirements are pretty steep. It is intended to take advantage of future hardware gains and SOE says there is no machine on the market today that can run the game at full settings.

    Minimum Hardware Requirements

    Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
    Processor: 1 GHz
    RAM: 512 MB
Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible; pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64 MB of texture memory
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware

    Recommended Hardware Specifications

    Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
    Processor: 2 GHz or greater
    RAM: 1 GB
Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible; pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 128 MB or more of texture memory
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware

I agree, in fact its actually very poor design to make something that is unattainable, if they want to sell the most copies they would make the average computer capable of playing it at a decent level. The only reason it will still sell well though is due to its well deserved nickname EverCrack, and all the addicts. Personally I got bored really quickly seeing as its all more of the same and not much variation or speed to it. So many hours are needed to be dedicated to get anywhere.

Far Cry and Halo are some of the most intensive games on the market right now. Halo may be a bit older, but it uses DirectX9 and always comes out in the lowest performance when tests are run.

I agree with everyone else on engine quality. Just because a game requires a 128 MB video card doesn't mean that it's well built. It's companies like ID and Blizzard that continually try to make their games as accessible as possible. Warcraft III was originally supposed to be run at minimum on a Radeon or a GeForce 2. It got pushed all the way down to an 8 MB ATI Rage and its nVidia equivalent. Some people even got it playable with lesser requirements.

    --------------------
    Compaq Presario 2800T
    Pentium 4-M 1.6 GHz - 15" UXGA
    512 MB RAM - 40 GB (5400 rpm)
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 64 MB
Pretty good for 2002 isn't it?

well what about FPS games Half-life engine came out 1998 or 1999 and is still the base of the most popular game on the internet, Counter-Strike, with many other mods always being developed. The game still looks great and doesn't have huge requirements.
